Texans report: Notes, quotes
--Ron Dayne was disappointed when the Texans signed Ahman Green in the offseason, essentially ending any hopes Dayne had of re-signing as the team's starting back. But he adjusted well, entering camp in better shape than coach Gary Kubiak has seen him in awhile.
Dayne has also adjusted to the idea of running alongside Green. The two will share many of the duties with Green getting about 20-25 carries and Dayne receiving the rest. The likelihood of both veterans holding up across a 16-game stretch is also unlikely, so Dayne is expected to get a few starts this season.
"It's cool," Dayne said. "It kind of reminds me of having Tiki (Barber) with me when I was in New York."
--S Brandon Harrison, the Texans' fifth-round pick, will look to follow in the footsteps of other Stanford safeties who have gone on to have solid careers in the NFL. John Lynch, Tank Williams and Coy Wire all came out of Palo Alto and are still playing in the league.
Lynch is a seven-time Pro Bowler and is the starting strong safety for Denver, Williams signed with Minnesota in the offseason after playing his first four years in Tennessee, and Wire has played his first five seasons in Buffalo.
Harrison has some catching up to do. Because Stanford didn't graduate until the middle of June, he was unable to participate in any of the Texans' offseason workouts or mini camps. He will join the team for the first time in training camp.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"Hey, that guy is amazing. A guy that big that can move like that. I'll steal some of his moves, but don't tell him." -- Rookie wide receiver Jacoby Jones, when asked about working with Andre Johnson.
