Chiefs report: Notes, quotes
--GM Carl Peterson touched off a firestorm of negative public reaction during his pre-draft press briefing when, responding to a question about public criticism of his draft record, he said he had received absolutely no criticism from "the sphere of people who I consider real Kansas City Chiefs fans, (those) who step up each year and put their money down and say, 'I'm here to see the Chiefs.' "
Fans who aren't in position to buy season tickets reacted angrily for two days -- right up until Friday morning when it became known that the Chiefs had finalized the trade for Patrick Surtain, a popular move that immediately diffused the heat on Peterson.
Still, as Peterson introduced Surtain to fans at an Arrowhead draft, he made a point to note that "I love ALL Chiefs fans."
QUOTE TO NOTE
"I can't guarantee everybody that I'm going to be a Pro Bowler or even be that great a player, but I know I'll be a 250-pound crazy country white boy running down the field on kickoffs." Boomer Grigsby, the self-styled country boy from Illinois State selected by the Chiefs in the fourth round.
