Dolphins report: Notes, quotes

Notes, quotes · Inside slant · Strategy and personnel

--Although he isn't a candidate for the Dolphins job, Don Shula has temporarily returned to the sidelines. Shula is coaching the East squad in the East-West Shrine Game in Houston and is using three of his former coaches (Howard Schnellenberger, Bill Arnsparger and Monty Clark) as assistants as well as former Dolphins wide receiver Nat Moore.

--As first reported by The Sports Xchange, the Dolphins appear headed to London for a regular-season game against the Giants. An official announcement will come from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell before Super Bowl XLI.

Despite losing a home contest, such a meeting could actually prove a blessing in disguise for the Dolphins considering the large number of transplanted New Yorkers who live in South Florida. The Giants haven't played at Dolphin Stadium since the 1996 season.

--WR Chris Chambers was named the franchise's 2006 Man of the Year for his charity work and contributions.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"They told me there was a bunch of yelling. Before he even came to Miami, I heard all about the yelling and rah-rah stuff and getting coaches to yell at players and being a dictator. That's not what you need at the professional level. ... You're dealing with grown men who don't need to be pushed like that. We're already driven because everyone wants to succeed at this level. What you need is a coach they can trust and believe in." -- Retired Dolphins defensive end Jay Williams, speaking to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, on Nick Saban's coaching style with the Dolphins. Williams had said he didn't want to play for a "college coach" when Saban was hired in December 2004 and ultimately forced his way off the team by refusing to restructure his contract.
