Raiders report: Notes, quotes, anecdotes

Inside slant | Strategy and personnel

--There are numerous questions on the team's defensive line as training camp approaches. The only certain starter is John Parrella at right tackle. Starting end Tony Bryant may not play again after suffering a severe neck injury mid-year. Another end, Trace Armstrong, is 37 and coming off a torn groin. That's why they drafted a grinder in round one, end Tyler Brayton, and situational rushers Sam Williams and Shurron Pierson in Rounds 3-4. Their top pass rusher remains tackle Roderick Coleman.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Sack wise, it's not as if we were on the bottom of the league. We still applied pressure with what we had. But you are always looking to take it to that next level." -- Defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan, on his unit which provided 43 sacks a year ago.

If only Urban Meyer could dress them out for just one game this season, maybe he could figure out what the issues are in the red zone and pass that on to the guys trying to get it done. The Florida Gators are 9-0 and ranked No. 1, but the offense is ailing and part of it may be the fact that Percy Harvin and ...(more)

I've been a fan for 30 years and have never seen a team like this one. Ok, maybe Shell's second stint at coach. I'm trying to figure out what could possibly the reason why we flat out can't move the ball! These are the possible scenerio's going on in my mind.

  • Bad coaching? if so, it doesn't seem that coach after coach we would have the same results
  • Bad players? If so , ...(more)

I am watching the Giants/Chargers play.  The Chargers just ran a reverse.  The announcers said they were running an end around.  Has anyone else noticed that the annoucers seem to constantly get this one wrong?  If they can't tell the difference between a reverse a ...(more)

(POLL) Well we have talks going on about coaches and I am interested in finding out what coach would you prefer to have with the Raiders organization. Me personally it would be in this order;
1) Jon Gruden

2) Bill Cowher

3) Jim Fassel

    The guy is very over rated. He is fast and that is it. He has no ability to make people miss when he's in open space.....and he fumbles way too much. Fargas and Bush are the Raiders best two RB's. Trade McFadden and cut Russell....that would be two steps in the right direction.

Here's a stat line that should make all the people who've been saying Fargas lovers(jock riders, ya I said it) STFU already. They all sit there trying to make it seem like Fargas is doing better than either McFadden or Bush thus far this season. When in truth, he's really not. Here's the proof...

Being that my glass is always half-full, I am happy that I made the trek out to San Diego.

The 5 Freeway was still a Raider fest, as it always is. Even going through a losing season, Raider Fans still come out in full force.

Yes, we lost...again. But this game felt a little different. It felt like we stayed competitive and never gave up. That is all I can ask for at this
