--Mike Singletary named Alex Smith one of six team captains this week. At this time last year, Smith was a backup to Shaun Hill.
--"I'm sure (Matt) Leinart thought the same thing." -- Alex Smith on whether he thought he'd be the starting quarterback when the offseason began.
--"I wanted the guy who is the third quarterback, I really wanted him to be able to compete with the No. 2." -- Singletary on why he swapped Nate Davis for Troy Smith on the active roster.
--"He made it clear to me as soon as I got here -- he wants workers and he'll get just that." - QB Troy Smith on his first meeting with Singletary.

--Troy Smith's locker is not with the quarterbacks. It's on the other side of the room with the receivers. In fact, it's next to Ted Ginn's, whom Smith played with in high school and at Ohio State.
