Seahawks report: Notes, quotes

--When Mike Holmgren was coaching at San Francisco State, they had a scrimmage against the University of Pacific, whose offensive coordinator at the time was Mike Martz, now the offensive coordinator for the 49ers. "We used to recruit the same areas," Holmgren said.

--WR Jordan Kent, who was released and then signed to the practice squad, said the team told him that the entire receiving unit had too much youth and that they needed some players with game experience. "I've always tried to help the team win, and the best way to do that now is to be the best player I can be on the scout team," Kent said.

--Newly signed punter Jon Ryan played for the Green Bay Packers when they beat the Seahawks in the playoffs last season in a snow-filled game. "I remember that game was like playing in a snow globe," Ryan said. "I obviously have much better memories of the outcome of that game than most of the people in this locker room."

--Backup QB Seneca Wallace, who has been working out at wide receiver, said he will attend quarterback meetings this week instead of receiver meetings. "When you play quarterback you understand what he is looking for on certain routes," Wallace said.

--Coach Mike Holmgren said the Seahawks considered signing wide receiver Koren Robinson, who was released from the Seahawks after multiple legal complications. Holmgren said he would have had no trouble coaching Robinson again but insinuated that his was not the only voice on the matter. "Right now, whether it's Koren or anybody else that could come in and help the football team and contribute, I think you have to, at the very least, talk about him in the meeting," Holmgren said. "And that's what we did. My comfort level with that would be OK, but again, there's more to discuss."

--S Jordan Babineaux, who was suspended by the league last week for violating the league's substance abuse policy, said he was surprised at their decision. "I didn't put it out there, they did," Babineaux said. "They issued the punishment, and I handled my business, took care of it, put it behind me and now I am ready to press forward and look forward to the rest of the season."

--Holmgren was asked if he has rethought his decision to return, given all the adversity the Seahawks have already faced this season. "The one thing that I absolutely know is that I did the right thing," Holmgren said. "This is not the first time that I have, or the team has, faced some adversity. It's one game. Hey, let's go. I'm OK."

BY THE NUMBERS
10-4 -- Mike Holmgren's regular-season record against the team that gave him his start in the NFL. This will be one of the last two times he faces them.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I bring a big playmaking ability. They have seen me at Oregon and they know what I'm capable of doing. I'm going to try to bring that to the NFL level." -- Newly signed wide receiver Samie Parker.

(POLL) After watching the game against the Rams and how Justin ran, was wondering what everyone thinks of hime being a everydown type back? I know he is not big by rb standards but he hits the holes low and fast. He looked real good but I think I want to see more against a good team to see how he does. We need to save our draft picks for studs on ...(more)

Well I think we can all agree that Tim Ruskell's time as the Seahawks GM will end. He will not recieve a new contract. It is a shame if you ask me because I think he is an above average GM and he had a great offseason but the wins and losses speak for themselfs. Hell it would be great if somehow we could keep him with the franchise and hand ...(more)

(POLL) Was just wondering what everyone thinks we should do with our picks in the first round. I figure we should get picks right around the 5 to 8 picks both of them. Ours and Denvers both should be around that area. I think we should go out and grab a big ass tough as nails Offensive lineman and then a stud type running back, and in the later rounds some more Offencive lineman.

Citing "inside sources," Pro Football Weekly reports that Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell will not return to the team in 2010.
Ruskell, whose contract is expiring, has reportedly been notified that he will not receive an extension. It's the right

Jon Gruden.

Mike Holmgren wants to come back to Seattle and take over the President/General Manager role.  He effectively said that on sports radio a week or two ago.  The Cleveland deal is posturing on his end.  He wants Seattle and once Ruskell is gone, he's gonna be the guy in charge.

Once hired, he's going to be calling his old QB coach from Green Bay -

I hope the Seahawks draft better next year and don't spend millions on free-agents that are not worth the money.  I was not a big fan of #4 pick Aaron Curry and the signing of TJ.  The Seahawks had pressing needs at QB and the offensive line and drafted a LB?&nbs ...(more)

What the heck was this guy thinking when he pulled Forsett out after his first touchdown? I couldn't believe my eye's.. I've never seen a coach kill momentum faster then napping nap. I've never been one to call out a coach and his decision making but what the heck was that?

Can someone clear that up?

I know, people hate looking ahead to next year's draft, but what the hell. Consider this a mock draft thread for anyone that is bored. I'm sure I'll change my picks many times throughout the year, but I'm just curious to see where things are starting to pan out...

(POLL) Alright, this is going to be plain and simple. Do you think that in the offseason we should fire Jim Mora, and if so, who would you like to see take over? Feel free to explain......

Hey all I was thinking that if the Hawks don't do any better that they will end up with a top 10 pick and also have my Broncos pick as well. So here is my question I you end up with a top 8 pick and Jake Locker is there would you trade both your 1st rd picks to draft him.

He is a kid that has an arm and can make plays with his f

14 yards rushing earlier this season v. Arizona and now 4 yards v. Minnesota?  18 frickin rushing yards in 2 games TOTAL?   Is this is joke?

Locklear - you are not a LT.  Maybe a decent RG or LG, but you flat out are not the long term answer at LT for this franchise.

About 90% of the analysts are taking the Rams. Getting pretty bad in hawkville. They no longer show any Seahawks highlights even when they preview this game it was all Rams clips. SAD

I really think that after you pick the best OL in the draft with our first pick we should really look hard at this kid for our second first round pick, I have watched him this year a couple of times and he is just a monster out there and the only dig on him I can find is he needs to catch more but that could also be the system he is in as Stanford does not throw to often to the back field players. ...(more)

I liked Curry coming out of college, but didn't want the Hawks to use the #4 pick on him. LB's that can't rush a QB are not top 10 picks. Look at our own LB core.

Tatupu was #45 overall
Hill was #98 overall
Hawthorne was undrafted
Curry was #4 overall

Unless a LB can turn the corner like LT and create havoc, he just isn't worth the high of pick and the s

Seahawks fans, Congrats on your 27-17 win over the Rams. Was a good game. Good luck next week when you host the 49ers. That should be another very good game.
