Cedric Peerman News The Baltimore Sun reports Ravens RB Cedric Peerman, a sixth-round pick, signed a three-year, $1.2 million deal that included a $78,000 signing bonus. Derrick Mason News The Baltimore Sun reports that a couple of weeks after the Ravens seemed certain that WR Derrick Mason would participate in training camp, the veteran said Tuesday that there is no timetable for his return. Mason has been limited the entire offseason because he is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. The Ravens report to training camp in late July. "You never know with Superman. I can come out with the cape and it could be the first day or the second week," Mason said about training camp. "You never know. But I'm optimistic that when it's time to play, I'll be able to play whenever it is." He injured his shoulder in the Nov. 9 game at Houston but continued to play the rest of the season, remaining the top target for QB Joe Flacco. Injury Shoulder - Questionable for start of training camp Joe Reitz No Updates Isaac Smolko News The Ravens signed the following players to Reserve/Futures contracts: WR Justin Harper, RB Matt Lawrence, DE Bryan Mattison, CB Anwar Phillips, TE Isaac Smolko, WR Ernie Wheelwright and WR Ed Williams. Edward Williams News The Ravens signed the following players to Reserve/Futures contracts: WR Justin Harper, RB Matt Lawrence, DE Bryan Mattison, CB Anwar Phillips, TE Isaac Smolko, WR Ernie Wheelwright and WR Ed Williams. Robby Felix No Updates Stefan Rodgers No Updates Chris Chester No Updates Kelley Washington News The Carroll County Times reports Tuesday that the Ravens could use newly-signed WR Kelley Washington as their No. 3 receiver behind Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton. "You don't want to ever put limitations on a guy," coach John Harbaugh said. "One good thing about him is he doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on his body. He's kind of a young 29. We have some high hopes for Kelley, and that's why we signed him." Willis McGahee News In an interview with CBSSports.com, Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron says that RB Willis McGahee ran at full speed at the team's last minicamp and expects the veteran to be ready to roll in training camp, something he didn't do at all last summer. "(He) has looked as good as he's looked since I've seen him," Cameron said. "I'm just optimistic. He missed the entire training camp last year and he should come into training camp this year ready to go, which is exciting." Cameron added that he expects his running game to "truly (be) running back by committee." Injury Ankle - Probable for start of training camp Ray Rice News In an interview with CBSSports.com, Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron says that he was very impressed with the progress second-year running back Ray Rice has made this offseason. "He's just playing with great speed. His running has improved, his pass protection has always been good but it's even better and his route-running and catching have really improved. He's playing with a lot of confidence," Cameron said. The Ravens' playcaller added that he expects his running game to "truly (be) running back by committee." Isaiah Williams No Updates Frank Walker News Ravens DB Frank Walker totaled six solo tackles, two pass defenses and one forced fumble Week 17 against the Jaguars. He finished the season with 35 tackles, three forced fumbles and one interception. Paul Kruger No Updates Davon Drew News The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens have not decided who is starting at TE this season just yet. Is it Todd Heap or L.J. Smith? Maybe it's Edgar Jones. No one knows for sure, and the answer might not come until after training camp when coach John Harbaugh takes a body count at the position. As of right now, Heap appears to be No. 1, followed by Smith. But if the Ravens had a game today, those two probably couldn't play because of injuries, and neither could blocking TE Quinn Sypniewski, who had surgery last week to repair an aggravated knee injury. That leaves the Ravens with Jones, who converted from outside linebacker last season, and rookie Davon Drew, the team's fifth-round pick out of East Carolina. David Hale No Updates Ben Grubbs No Updates Fabian Washington News WR Yamon Figurs, QB Todd Bouman, RB Ray Rice, CB Fabian Washington, WR Marcus Maxwell and LB Antwan Barnes are all listed as inactive Week 17 against the Ravens. Quinn Sypniewski News The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens have not decided who is starting at TE this season just yet. Injury Knee - Questionable for start of training camp Joe Flacco News CBS analyst Phil Simms, via a report in the Sporting News, said the Ravens should continue to be conservative with second-year QB Joe Flacco just as they were in his rookis season. "In Rex Ryan, they did lose a valuable part of their defense but the offense did more than its part last season, running the football, controlling the tempo," Simms said. "They've got to be careful in trying to take the so-called next step with Joe Flacco and try to open up the offense when they don't need to. They have a good formula working." Lou Saucedo No Updates William VanDeSteeg No Updates Jarret Johnson News Ravens LB Ray Lewis (seven tackles) led the way defensively for Baltimore in a Week 13 rout of the Bengals. Also contributing: LB Bart Scott (five tackles, 1/2 sack), DB Corey Ivy (three tackles, 1/2 sack), LB Jarret Johnson (three tackles, 1/2 sack), LB Terrell Suggs (two tackles, 1/2 sack) and LB Brendon Ayanbadejo (sack). Matt Katula No Updates Todd Heap News The Baltimore Sun reports the biggest problem for Ravens TE Todd Heap, who is trying to come back from a back injury, is trying to regain explosion. The report states the Ravens' offense is built on timing patterns. They don't do a lot of head-faking and juking when they run routes because they want to get to a certain spot as soon as possible. Without explosion, Heap has been slow getting off the line of scrimmage. That has to change before he becomes Pro Bowl-caliber again, especially in this offense. Injury Back - Probable for start of training camp Graham Gano No Updates Jared Gaither No Updates Chris Carr News The Ravens have signed backup cornerback Chris Carr to a 2-year, $5 million deal. Carr is expected to back up Fabian Washington and Domonique Foxworth and return kicks. Steven Hauschka News The Baltimore Ravens have listed the following players as inactive for Week 16 on Saturday night at Dallas: QB Todd Bouman (3rd QB), K Steven Hauschka, WR Terrance Copper, WR Marcus Maxwell and DL Edgar Jones. Terrell Suggs News The Ravens used the franchise tag on Pro Bowl LB Terrell Suggs for the second consecutive year, a transaction that costs the team $10.2 million against the 2009 salary cap. That's the one-year salary Suggs is guaranteed if he signs their offer sheet; he can still shop himself around to other clubs but would force the team that signs him to give Baltimore two first-round picks as compensation. A three-time Pro Bowl selection who led the team with eight sacks while recording 63 total tackles last season, Suggs was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. Now, teammates Ray Lewis and Bart Scott will be free agents while Suggs deals with the tag. Lewis has been linked to a spot with the Cowboys while Scott has been linked to reuniting with former defensive coordinator Rex Ryan in New York with the Jets. Antwan Barnes News WR Yamon Figurs, QB Todd Bouman, RB Ray Rice, CB Fabian Washington, WR Marcus Maxwell and LB Antwan Barnes are all listed as inactive Week 17 against the Ravens. Ed Reed News Baltimore DB Ed Reed is listed as questionable for Saturday's divisional playoff game at Tennessee. Reed intercepted Dolphins QB Chad Pennington twice in their Wild Card playoff game at Miami last week. Reed was questionable for that game with a knee injury as well but was able to play just fine. K.J. Gerard No Updates Evan Oglesby News Ravens QB Todd Bouman (3rd), RB Jalen Parmele, WR Terrance Copper, WR Marcus Maxwell and DB Evan Oglesby have all been ruled inactive for Week 15 vs. Pittsburgh. Michael Oher No Updates Lardarius Webb News The Baltimore Ravens signed Lardarius Webb to a three-year contract Thursday afternoon. "Lardarius was slowed some in the OTAs with a hamstring problem, but toward the end, when he was feeling better, he showed he belonged," said head coach John Harbaugh. "He'll help us on special teams, including as a gunner, and he'll contribute to our defense." The Ravens third round draft choice (88th overall) in this year's draft, Webb played well as a DB at Nicholls State. He Transferred to Nicholls State from Southern Mississippi after his sophomore season, playing in 46 total games (26 at Southern Miss. and 20 at Nicholls State), starting 23 (20 at Nicholls State and three at Southern Miss.). He recorded 179 tackles (144 solo), 24 passes defensed, eight tackles for loss, seven interceptions, three sacks, two fumbles recovered and one forced fumble. Matt Birk No Updates Prescott Burgess News The Ravens placed LB Prescott Burgess (wrist) and RB P.J. Daniels (shoulder) on injured reserve Monday and released FB Justin Green. Jalen Parmele News Baltimore had the following players active in Week 16 on Saturday night against Dallas but not pick up any offensive stats: QB Troy Smith, WR Marcus Smith, TE Daniel Wilcox and RB Jalen Parmele. Ray Lewis News The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to terms with middle linebacker Ray Lewis on a multiyear contract. "We got better today. Our football team got better. I am very happy," general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "This will allow Ray to finish his career as a Raven." The 10-time Pro Bowl pick had three interceptions and two fumble recoveries last season. By keeping Lewis, the Ravens fill the void created at inside linebacker when Bart Scott signed with the New York Jets. Lewis earned his 10th Pro Bowl this season after leading the NFL's second-ranked defense with 160 tackles. He also had 3 1/2 sacks, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Jason Cook No Updates Tre' Stallings No Updates Le'Ron McClain News In an interview with CBSSports.com, Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron denies labeling Le'Ron McClain as a fullback and says he plans to use him as a running back, among other roles. "I'm not sure where that came from. He's a running back. That's the way I view him," Cameron said. "To me, Lorenzo Neal is a fullback, and a great one. Le'Ron, to me, and I felt like this when I saw him in college, is a potential running back. He's also a guy that can play fullback, play tailback, and actually we're going to use him a little bit at tight end this year. He's just a football player that can do multiple things. He will definitely get carries like he did last year. Probably not as many just because our pass protection unit has evolved, Joe [Flacco] has evolved, we have more tight ends this year. So he won't get the number of carries but he's going to carry the football." Kelly Talavou News On Friday, the Ravens waived WR Darnerien McCants and TE Aaron Walker, and placed DT Dwan Edwards (back), LB Terrence Melton (hand) and DT Kelly Talavou (shoulder) on Injured Reserve. Brian Johnson No Updates Greg Ryan No Updates Sam Koch No Updates Justin Bannan News Notable Ravens defenders from Week 5 vs. the Titans include: DB Jim Leonhard (eight total tackles), LB Ray Lewis (seven total tackles), LB Jarrett Johnson (six total tackles), DL Justin Bannan (three total tackles, interception) and CB Chris McAlister (solo tackle, interception). Stud defenders Ed Reed and Bart Scott each registered three solo tackles while Terrell Suggs had three total tackles. Ernie Wheelwright News The Ravens signed the following players to Reserve/Futures contracts: WR Justin Harper, RB Matt Lawrence, DE Bryan Mattison, CB Anwar Phillips, TE Isaac Smolko, WR Ernie Wheelwright and WR Ed Williams. Kelly Gregg News Baltimore Ravens nose guard Kelly Gregg will undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee Tuesday, according to his agent. Gregg has not played this season because of the troublesome knee. His agent, Jack Bechta, said Monday night the knee was not responding to treatment, and that the operation will probably sideline the veteran until next May or June. Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery. The Ravens had no immediate comment Monday night. Gregg underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on his left knee in early August after getting hurt in training camp in late July. He has been dealing with a hole in his cartilage that has caused significant pain and discomfort. "It's a very unusual injury from what I'm told," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said last week. Troy Smith News The Baltimore Sun reports with several wide receivers excused from voluntary minicamp, backup QB Troy Smith made a temporary position change to WR, running routes and making some impressive catches Tuesday. The Ravens have tinkered with the idea of expanding the role of Smith, who remains the No. 2 QB on the team's depth chart. "Without making it a huge story, I'm quite sure that Troy will be lined up in different places this year," coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday. "He can split out and play receiver. He can play running back. We definitely want to expand guys." Tony Fein No Updates Haruki Nakamura No Updates Matt Lawrence News The Ravens signed the following players to Reserve/Futures contracts: WR Justin Harper, RB Matt Lawrence, DE Bryan Mattison, CB Anwar Phillips, TE Isaac Smolko, WR Ernie Wheelwright and WR Ed Williams. Domonique Foxworth News The Ravens have agreed to terms with former Falcons cornerback Domonique Foxworth on a four-year, $28 million contract that includes $16.5 million in guaranteed money. Foxworth played his college ball at The University of Maryland. In 14 games last year, he had 38 total tackles, one interception and 11 passes defensed. Will Johnson No Updates Tom Zbikowski No Updates Bryan Mattison News The Ravens signed the following players to Reserve/Futures contracts: WR Justin Harper, RB Matt Lawrence, DE Bryan Mattison, CB Anwar Phillips, TE Isaac Smolko, WR Ernie Wheelwright and WR Ed Williams. Samari Rolle News Cornerback Samari Rolle has re-signed with the Baltimore Ravens for a four-year deal. The team said Rolle signed the contract on Monday after being cut last month. Terms weren't immediately available. Justin Harper News The Ravens signed the following players to Reserve/Futures contracts: WR Justin Harper, RB Matt Lawrence, DE Bryan Mattison, CB Anwar Phillips, TE Isaac Smolko, WR Ernie Wheelwright and WR Ed Williams. Salomon Solano News The Ravens have waived QB Brad Roach, released CB Lenny Walls and signed TEs Adam Bergen and Aaron Walker along with DT Salomon Solano, who will be on the club's practice squad as an international player. L.J. Smith News The Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens TE L.J. Smith has a lot to prove. For a few years when he played for the Eagles, Smith had developed a reputation as one of the better pass-catching tight ends in the NFL. In 2005 and 2006, Smith caught a total of 111 passes for 1,293 yards and eight touchdowns. But the next two seasons were marred by injury and low production (59 total catches for 534 yards and four touchdowns), and it's that characterization that has been following Smith - who was signed by the Ravens three months ago - for longer than he would have liked. "Once you get labeled - and I got labeled the past couple of years as a guy who got hurt - that's something that's hard to fight," Smith said. "If it takes two years to get over an injury, it usually takes twice as long to get that label off of you. I don't have much time in the league. This is my seventh year. So I'm just trying to stay healthy, and I think by coming here where these guys are very competitive, it just brings the best out of you." Injury Groin - Questionable for start of training camp Edgar Jones News The Carroll County Times reports the Ravens are using former DL Edgar Jones at TE with injuries to Todd Heap, L.J. Smith and Quinn Sypniewski. But Jones is also still rushing the passer at times as well. "The first rep felt a little bit different," Jones said. "By the second or third rep, it felt like second nature." Tavares Gooden News The Ravens placed rookie LB Tavares Gooden on injured reserve Tuesday with a hip injury. The third-round pick out of Miami has been dealing with the injury since training camp. Oniel Cousins No Updates David Hale No Updates Eron Riley No Updates Trevor Pryce News Ravens DL Trevor Pryce recorded a sack for the second straight game Week 10 at Houston, finishing with two tackles, one solo. The sack was his fourth of the season. Dawan Landry News The Ravens placed cornerback Chris McAlister and strong safety Dawan Landry on injured reserve, ending their seasons. McAlister underwent surgery Monday to repair his posterior cruciate ligament and cartilage damage on his right knee in Coral Gables, Fla. McAlister, who leads the Ravens with three interceptions, has had problems with the knee dating to last season. Landry is still experiencing tingling sensations in his neck after sustaining a spinal cord concussion against the Cleveland Browns in the third game of the season. The team signed LB Robert McCune and WR Marcus Maxwell to take their place on the roster. Marshal Yanda No Updates Yamon Figurs News According to the team web site, Ravens WR Yamon Figurs, who suffered a broken foot during the offseason in mid-May, is getting healthy. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that Figurs will be "100 percent" by training camp, and Figurs concurred Tuesday. Figurs is still wearing a protective boot on his right leg but admitted that the boot was merely a precautionary measure. Figurs originally hurt himself running a simple route during receiving drills. After missing most of the offseason workouts, Figurs will have a tough hill to climb in order to get back in the race to be the Ravens' fourth or fifth receiver, as Marcus Smith and Kelley Washington both had their bright spots in practice. He's clearly behind Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams when all are healthy. Injury Foot - Questionable for start of training camp Demetrius Williams News The Baltimore Sun reports WR Demetrius Williams remains part of the offensive plans this year. But the Ravens need him to prove it on the field. They need him to move past the ankle injury that has kept him out of 19 games, including playoffs, the past two seasons. "Everybody's seen glimpses of [Williams] the last two years," said Cam Cameron, the Ravens' second-year offensive coordinator. "But in reality, in my mind, we've got to be prepared to play without him." Williams had surgery in November to repair a ligament in his left ankle and remove a calcified bone that had been rubbing against his Achilles' tendon for most of the past two years. Rehabilitation has been steady, if painful. So far, the Ravens have been willing to wait. In May, coach John Harbaugh said the seven-week period between the passing camp and training camp was more critical to Williams than anyone else on the team. Injury Achilles' tendon - Probable for start of training camp Dannell Ellerbe No Updates Jason Phillips No Updates Lamar Divens News The Ravens have announced their Week 13 inactives. Not in uniform in Cincinnati will be: QB Todd Bouman (third QB), WR Terrance Copper (neck), WR Marcus Maxwell (coach's decision), CB Frank Walker (coach's decision), TE Edgar Jones (coach's decision) and DT Lamar Divens (shoulder). Joe Minucci News The Saints had to cut or place on injured reserve 22 players Saturday to get to the NFL maximum 53-player roster for the regular season. Those released included linebacker Colby Bockwoldt, who started much of last season, and tight end Zack Hilton, who started six games last season. The Saints also cut fourth quarterback Adrian McPherson. The Saints also cut Mike Hass, Chris Horn and Chase Lyman, running back Jamaal Branch, former LSU linebacker E.J. Kuale, defensive tackle Brandon Villarreal, punter Steve Weatherford, defensive back Josh Lay, defensive back Grant Mason, defensive tackle Joe Minucci, defensive end Javon Nanton, defensive end Jimmy Verdon, linebacker Jay Foreman, center Dwayne Ledford, tight end Billy Miller and defensive tackle Josh Williams. Marcus Smith News Ravens coach John Harbaugh told the media during the team's most recent minicamp that second-year receiver Marcus Smith is much improved from a year earlier and "works as hard, or harder, than anybody on the team every single day." The second-year head coach added: "We've always thought Marcus was going to be a really good player he's physical, he's tough and he's a hard worker. ... He can run you know he's a former running back so once he gets the ball in his hands, he's a strong runner North and South. So, I think he's going to be that kind of receiver for us, and I'm excited about Marcus." John Beck News After being released by the Dolphins, QB John Beck was reunited with Cam Cameron, the coach who drafted him in Miami when he signed with the Ravens. Cameron is now Baltimore's offensive coordinator. Adam Terry No Updates Jameel McClain News Ravens LB Jameel McClain picked up two tackles and a sack in Week 16's Saturday night victory over Dallas. McClain now has 15 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the year. Brendon Ayanbadejo News Ravens LB Ray Lewis (seven tackles) led the way defensively for Baltimore in a Week 13 rout of the Bengals. Also contributing: LB Bart Scott (five tackles, 1/2 sack), DB Corey Ivy (three tackles, 1/2 sack), LB Jarret Johnson (three tackles, 1/2 sack), LB Terrell Suggs (two tackles, 1/2 sack) and LB Brendon Ayanbadejo (sack). |
