Derek Fine News The following Bills players did not record an offensive statistic in Week 16 at Denver: QB Gibran Hamdan, RB Derek Schouman, TE Derek Fine, WR Justin Jenkins and RB Corey McIntyre. Jon Corto News Bills LB Jon Corto sustained a concussion during Thursday's preseason game against the Lions. He had three tackles (two solo). Corto had eight tackles in the preseason. Ko Simpson News Bills safety Ko Simpson was arrested outside a bar in his hometown of Rock Hill after he refused to leave officers alone as they arrested another man, according to a police report. Simpson was in a car that was speeding through the parking lot of the Celebrations bar around 2 a.m. New Year's Day. The driver and another passenger in the car were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after they yelled and cursed at police, according to the report. Simpson than began yelling at officers, saying "I'm Ko Simpson with the Buffalo Bills. I am worth millions!" several times. The officers asked Simpson to leave the parking lot and he began to walk away, but turned around and started yelling at officers again, police said. The officers arrested Simpson because they feared his screaming might cause the large crowd that gathered to turn against them, police said. The 25-year-old Simpson was charged with hindering police and released on a $470 bond, according to Rock Hill jail officials. Ventrell Jenkins No Updates Garrison Sanborn No Updates Reggie Corner News In the Bills' 54-31 win at the Chiefs in Week 12, notable defenders included: CB Leodis McKelvin (two solo tackles, two interceptions, one touchdown), LB Blake Costanzo (six solo tackles, two forced fumbles), DB George Wilson (four solo tackles, sack), DB Reggie Corner (three solo tackles, forced fumble), DE Ryan Denney (three solo tackles, sack) and DL Copeland Bryan (solo tackle, sack). Steve Johnson News The Buffalo News reports Bills WR Steve Johnson is looking for a bigger role this year after making an impact as a seventh-round draft pick last season. "I'm approaching it with the same mentality as last year," Johnson said. "I was trying to make an impression every time I stepped on the field. Coming into this year, you're going to get a little bit of an opportunity and you've got to make the best out of all of them. Whether it's blocking or catching a 5-yard route, you've got to show the players and the coaches that you should be out there on the field." David Lindquist No Updates Kennard Cox No Updates Danny Urrego No Updates Marcus Stroud News Marcus Stroud's fresh start in Buffalo is paying off as the veteran defensive tackle was rewarded with a two-year contract extension potentially worth $16.5 million. Stroud's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that his client has signed an extension that includes $12 million in guaranteed money. Stroud, coming off his first season in Buffalo after being acquired in a trade with Jacksonville, had two years left on his existing contract and is signed through the 2012 season. The Bills defense finished 14th in the league last season in yards allowed, an improvement from 31st the previous year. James Hardy News Bills head coach Dick Jauron said Thursday that second-year WR James Hardy is a candidate to start training camp on the physically unable to perform list, potentially sidelining him for as many as 10 games. Hardy tore his ACL last December. Injury Knee - Questionable for start of training camp Chris Kelsay News With the Bills playing a huge game in Toronto vs. the Dolphins in Week 14, it looks like they're getting some reinforcements. Bills DE Aaron Schobel (foot) and FS Donte Whitner (shoulder) practiced in full on Wednesday and are considered candidates to make their respective returns to the field for Sunday's game. Schobel has missed seven games and Whitner has missed three. Elsewhere for the Bills, CB Jabari Greer missed practiced with his knee injury and DE Chris Kelsay had the day off. Marcus Buggs News The Bills placed reserve linebacker Marcus Buggs on injured reserve Friday after he sustained a high ankle sprain against the Browns. To take his place on the 53-man roster, Buffalo promoted linebacker Dustin Fox from the practice squad. Kawika Mitchell News Bills LB Kawika Mitchell (knee), who did not participate in Wednesday's practice, had limited participation Thursday. LB Teddy Lehman (groin), who did not participate in Wednesday's practice, also had limited participation. Felton Huggins News The Bills signed the following players to Reserve/Futures contracts: LB Vince Hall, WR C.J. Hawthorne, WR Felton Huggins, WR Mike Jefferson and DE Marcus Smith. Nick Hennessey No Updates Paul Posluszny News Buffalo LB Paul Posluszny made five tackles in Week 15's loss to the Jets. Posluszny picked off a Brett Favre pass in the game and now has 96 tackles on the season. Brad Butler No Updates Chris Ellis News The Bills placed rookie defensive end Chris Ellis on season-ending injured reserve on Saturday because of an ankle injury. The Bills didn't provide details on the severity of the injury. Buffalo activated Corey Mace from the practice squad, giving the Canadian-born defensive lineman an opportunity to make his NFL debut in his native country in the first of the Bills' five annual regular-season games in Toronto. Copeland Bryan News The Bills have announced the inactives for their Week 13 game vs. San Francisco. Not in uniform: QB Gibram Hamdan (third QB), SS Donte Whitner (shoulder), CB Jabari Greer (knee), LB Teddy Lehman (hamstring), TE Robert Royal (hamstring), DE Aaron Schobel (foot) and DE Copeland Bryan (foot). Terrence McGee News Injuries could force Bills starting cornerbacks Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin to miss the remainder of the team's spring minicamp practices. Though both have begun taking part in individual drills, coach Dick Jauron said Friday he's not sure whether either will be cleared for full practice for the Bills' final four sessions next week. "I would say maybe," Jauron said, noting he won't rush the two back to practice. McGee has been out since hurting his right shoulder on May 27. McKelvin also has been out since May 27 because of an infection to his middle right finger. Injury Arm - Questionable for the start of training camp Shawn Nelson News Though few fourth-round draft picks are counted upon to make big impacts during their rookie seasons, the Bills are making an exception for rookie Shawn Nelson. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Nelson is regarded as a player who has the size, speed and pass-catching ability to fill an immediate hole after the Bills released veteran starter Robert Royal in February. Nelson was a four-year starter in college, where he averaged 500 yards receiving a season and scored 16 career touchdowns, tied for third among Conference USA tight ends. Two days into a three-day minicamp, Nelson hasn't provided the Bills much reason to think differently, showing glimpses of many of the strengths touted in pre-draft scouting reports. He's fast off the line and able to get up the field in hurry with an effortless stride. Nelson's also got solid hands and a great knack for adjusting to errant throws. Several times on Friday, Nelson was able to reach back and down to snag low passes without missing a step. On Saturday, he ran an out pattern to his right and reached back for a pass thrown behind him to make a one-handed catch while keeping both feet inbounds. "He's a good athlete," offensive coordinator Turk Schonert said. "We think he's going to be a tough matchup for linebackers and safeties." Donte Whitner News The disorderly conduct case against Buffalo Bills DB Donte Whitner has been pushed back to July 31, but won't interfere with his preseason workouts. Whitner appeared in Cleveland Municipal Court on Friday on allegations of trying to force his way past officers dealing with a crowd outside a nightclub in April. He's charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Whitner's attorney, Larry Zukerman, told Judge Angela Stokes that both sides were involved in talks about a plea deal. With the agreement of the defense and prosecution, the judge said Whitner could skip next month's hearing because of preseason workouts. Geoff Hangartner No Updates Fred Jackson News The official team Web site reports that Bills RB Fred Jackson has been lining up as a receiver quite a bit during their most recent minicamp -- more so than fellow WR Roscoe Parrish. Jackson is in line to start for the Bills for their first three games while Marshawn Lynch serves a suspension, but this news suggests that Jackson could be in for more playing time than originally believed once Lynch comes back in Week 4. Eric Wood No Updates Justise Hairston News The Colts signed kicker Shane Andrus off waivers from the Giants, and QB Josh Betts, DT Joe Bradley, RB Justise Hairston, DE Ben Ishola, WR Onrea Jones, TE Gijon Robinson, WR Courtney Roby and LB Kyle Shotwell, all free agents. The Colts also released linebacker Brandon Archer. Bryan Scott News Bills LB Paul Posluszny (11 tackles), DB Bryan Scott (10 tackles), LB Keith Ellison (nine tackles) and DB Terrence McGee (eight tackles) all helped out with nice tackles totals in a Week 14 loss to Miami in Toronto. Jonathan Scott No Updates Jairus Byrd No Updates Marvin Philip No Updates Ellis Lankster No Updates Kyle Williams News Bills DL Kyle Williams recorded three tackles and 1 1/2 sacks in Buffalo's Week 1 win over the Seahawks. John DiGiorgio News Bills head coach Dick Jauron said Thursday that LB James DiGiorgio is a candidate to start training camp on the physically unable to perform list, potentially sidelining him for as many as 10 games. DiGiorgio tore a ligament in his knee last October. Injury Knee - Questionable for start of training camp Marshawn Lynch News We finally learned why Bills RB Marshawn Lynch sat out practice this week. Bills head coach Dick Jauron said Thursday that Lynch missed practice because of a foot injury. "He got stepped on and his foot kind of swelled up," Jauron said. "We sent him for x-rays and tests, but there was nothing broken, but it was still swollen and very sore." Injury Suspension - Appealing three-game suspension. Eligible for reinstatement for Week 4 at Miami John McCargo News The Buffalo Bills placed defensive tackle John McCargo on the injured reserve list Friday, ending his season and probably ending his career with the team. McCargo has been bothered by a bulging disk in his back. He was inactive the past two weeks and three of the past four games for the Bills. "It's been kind of gradually bothering him more," coach Dick Jauron said after Friday's practice. "We just thought it was aggravating him enough that we needed to get him out (of practice). It's just gotten more and more irritating to him, and he's tried to work through it." To fill McCargo's spot on the roster, the Bills promoted rookie tight end Jonathan Stupar from the practice squad. Daniel Watts No Updates Marcus Smith News The Bills signed the following players to Reserve/Futures contracts: LB Vince Hall, WR C.J. Hawthorne, WR Felton Huggins, WR Mike Jefferson and DE Marcus Smith. C.J. Hawthorne News Bills head coach Dick Jauron updated the media on the status of reserve WR C.J. Hawthorne. "C.J. is in a cast right now, and will be for a few more days," he said. "It's a leg issue. ... C.J. should be ready for camp." Injury Leg - Questionable for start of training camp Terrell Owens News As the Bills wrapped up a minicamp practice on Wednesday, QB Trent Edwards asked Terrell Owens and Lee Evans to stay behind and work a little longer on the offense. Both receivers gladly obliged, with Owens conceding that he needed the work as he's made some early mistakes. "I think it's very, very important, especially for me being new to the system," Owens said of his post-practice work. "Obviously, I have to get used to the way he throws the ball and he has to get used to my body language as far as when I'm going in and out of cuts. We're just trying to get a sense of timing and some chemistry and just working through some routes we're going to be running throughout the course of the year." Seth McKinney No Updates Rian Lindell News Buffalo K Rian Lindell could not set the Bills' team mark for most field goals in a season in Week 17's finale against the Patriots due to heavy winds. Lindell managed to go 0-for-1 on field goals in a nearly impossible wind to kick against and could not match Steve Christie's mark of 33 in 1998. He finished with zero points in the 13-0 loss. Aaron Maybin No Updates Xavier Omon News With the Bills' addition of RB Dominic Rhodes in mid-April, reserve RB Xavier Omon remains buried on the club's depth chart and is unlikely to see relevant touches in the club's first few games of the season with starter Marshawn Lynch suspended. Andy Levitre No Updates Corey Mace News The Bills placed rookie defensive end Chris Ellis on season-ending injured reserve on Saturday because of an ankle injury. The Bills didn't provide details on the severity of the injury. Buffalo activated Corey Mace from the practice squad, giving the Canadian-born defensive lineman an opportunity to make his NFL debut in his native country in the first of the Bills' five annual regular-season games in Toronto. Chris Denman No Updates Brian Moorman No Updates Drayton Florence News The Bills agreed to terms with veteran free agent cornerback Drayton Florence late Tuesday night. Terms of the deal were not immediately available. The 28-year-old Florence will provide the secondary with some depth as he becomes the fifth cornerback on the team's roster. Buffalo will head into the 2009 season with Terrence McGee and 2008 first-round pick (11th overall) Leodis McKelvin as the starters, with Florence in the mix to occupy the nickel role. Florence was cut by Jacksonville last month after signing a lucrative six-year, $36 million deal - with about $12 million guaranteed - with the Jaguars in 2008. He was scheduled to make a base salary of $1.9 million with a $2.5 million roster bonus this year. He spent most of this past season playing in nickel and dime situations. Keith Ellison News Buffalo LB Keith Ellison actually rushed the ball once in Week 15's loss to the Jets. Ellison totaled six yards on one carry. Derek Schouman News The following Bills players did not record an offensive statistic in Week 16 at Denver: QB Gibran Hamdan, RB Derek Schouman, TE Derek Fine, WR Justin Jenkins and RB Corey McIntyre. John Wendling News Bills CB Ashton Youboty (foot) and S John Wendling (ankle) practiced in full Friday and are probable for Week 9 vs. the Jets. Lydell Sargeant No Updates Ryan Fitzpatrick News Bengals QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 18-of-30 passes for 129 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in a Week 17 win over the Chiefs. He also ran seven times for 29 yards. Brandon Rodd No Updates Aaron Schobel News Bills DE Aaron Schobel won't need surgery for the Lisfranc sprain he suffered on his left foot this season, the official team Web site reports. Schobel will continue to take care of his foot but will otherwise spend his offseason as he normally would. "I've just got to get ready to play," said Schobel. "In my mind it's about 90 percent. I can still feel it. It's not like the other foot where I never feel it and just run normal. But I could play with it right now if I had to. As long as it's stable even if there's just a little bit of pain then I've got to deal with that." Injury Foot - Probable for the start of 2009 training camp Corey McIntyre News According to a TV station in West Palm Beach, a misdemeanor charge of exposing himself against Bills RB Corey McIntyre has been dropped, a police spokesman said Wednesday. In follow-up meetings with prosecutors, the victim who initially identified McIntyre said she never actually saw his genitals and was "unable to give other specifics in reference to her allegation." The woman initially told police she was at her home sitting at the computer when she heard a knock at the window. The blinds were closed or mostly closed, and when she looked out, she saw a man masturbating. Jonathan Stupar News The Bills listed the following players as inactive for Week 16 in Denver: J.P. Losman (third QB), DB Jabari Greer, LB Teddy Lehman, OL Jason Peters, OL Demetrius Bell, OL Jonathan Scott, WR James Hardy and TE Jonathan Stupar. Reggie Corner No Updates Demetrius Bell No Updates Josh Reed News The ramifications of Terrell Owens signing with the Bills stretch across many Fantasy-relevant players, and that includes Josh Reed and James Hardy, both Bills receivers. Reed starred as a quality possession receiver in 2008, catching 56 catches for 597 yards and one touchdown, and Hardy battled injuries and wound up on IR with a torn ACL while finishing with two touchdowns on nine catches (87 yards). Travis McCall No Updates Langston Walker No Updates Lee Evans News The Buffalo News reports Bills QB Trent Edwards spent more than 20 minutes throwing passes to WRs Terrell Owens and Lee Evans after organized team activities Wednesday. The purpose of the extra work was to improve Edwards' timing with his top wideouts. It was especially beneficial for Edwards and Owens to get a better feel for each other. Edwards initiated the post-practice session after a fairly ragged showing by the offense, which included several incomplete passes. He asked Owens and Evans to stick around a little longer so they could work on getting on the same page. Cary Harris No Updates Dominic Rhodes News Running back Dominic Rhodes agreed to a two-year contact with the Bills, giving Buffalo an established rusher while Marshawn Lynch opens next season serving a three-game suspension. The Bills needed to bolster their depth at running back after the NFL last week suspended Lynch without pay for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Rhodes spent the 2007 season with Oakland and returned to the Colts last season, sharing starting duties with Joseph Addai. In 15 games, Rhodes had 538 yards rushing, including a team-leading six touchdowns rushing. He added 302 yards receiving and three TDs receiving (better totals than Addai). "The way I always look at it is, when I get in the game, I try to give them a reason not to take me out and a reason to keep putting me back in," Rhodes said. "The first three games is definitely a plus and anything after that, I'll just, with practicing hard, playing hard, I'll just show them what I can do." Jermaine McGhee No Updates Dustin Fox News Buffalo has listed the following players as being inactive for Week 15 at the Jets: RB Xavier Omon, DB Jabari Greer, DB Dustin Fox and TE Jonathan Stupar. Ashlee Palmer No Updates Kirk Chambers No Updates P.K. Sam News Free agent receiver P.K. Sam signed with the Bills on Tuesday. Sam, selected by New England in the fifth round of the 2004 draft out of Florida State, played two games with the Patriots as a rookie. He played for the CFL Toronto Argonauts last season. He also spent time with Cincinnati, Miami and Oakland. Nic Harris No Updates Alvin Bowen News DE Derrick Jones signed by the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, two months after he was released by the Atlanta Falcons. Jones is expected to compete for a backup spot behind starters Aaron Schobel and Chris Kelsay. With reserve Bryan Copeland nursing a knee injury, the Bills are down a defensive end at training camp. Jones appeared in one game for the Falcons as a rookie last year. He was originally signed by Pittsburgh in 2007 as an undrafted free agent. To make room for Jones on their roster, the Bills placed rookie linebacker Alvin Bowen on waived-injured. If not claimed by another team, Bowen will be placed on Buffalo's injured-reserve list later in the day. The fifth-round draft pick is scheduled for surgery to repair a torn ligament on his right knee, which he injured in practice last week. Ryan Neill News The Bills signed the following players to their practice squad: DB Eric Bassey, TE Brad Cieslak, RB Fred Jackson, DL Jason Jefferson, DL Ryan Neill and WR George Wilson. Trent Edwards News It is only early June, three months before the start of the season, and yet there is no time to waste for Bills QB Trent Edwards. Doing things like staying after practice with his receivers, he is preparing to enter his second season as the Bills starter - third, including Edwards' rookie year when he won the job midseason - while being asked to master a new offense that includes the prolific and sometimes volatile Terrell Owens, and an added no-huddle dimension in which the quarterback calls plays at the line. Then there's the added pressure of knowing that this may be the make-or-break year for Edwards to show he can be the bona fide starter playoff-starved Bills fans have been waiting for since Jim Kelly retired 13 years ago. As if Edwards needs reminding of what's at stake. "If you want to classify it like that, then I'm completely OK with that," Edwards said. "But I thought last year was a make-or-break year. We showed some glimpses, and I think we'll show more this year. I'm excited for it. I'm going to embrace it. And I'm hoping for a big year. And I think that's what we're doing right now, preparing for a big year." Ryan Denney News Bills DL Ryan Denney doubled his season sack total when he made two sacks in a Week 13 loss to the 49ers. Denney finished with six tackles and also recorded a forced fumble. Leodis McKelvin News Injuries could force Bills starting cornerbacks Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin to miss the remainder of the team's spring minicamp practices. Injury Hand - Probable for the start of training camp Bruce Hall News The Bills promoted RB Bruce Hall from the practice squad before Week 17's game, a sign that second-year RB Marshawn Lynch might not be able to play. Lynch has been troubled with a sore shoulder for a week. Matt Baker News The Bills announced Tuesday they released four players, including cornerback Kennard Cox, the third of Buffalo's three seventh-round draft picks this year. Also cut were defensive end Shaun Nua and receiver C.J. Hawthorne. Fourth-string quarterback Matt Baker was also released after being placed on the waived-injured list. George Wilson News In the Bills' 54-31 win at the Chiefs in Week 12, notable defenders included: CB Leodis McKelvin (two solo tackles, two interceptions, one touchdown), LB Blake Costanzo (six solo tackles, two forced fumbles), DB George Wilson (four solo tackles, sack), DB Reggie Corner (three solo tackles, forced fumble), DE Ryan Denney (three solo tackles, sack) and DL Copeland Bryan (solo tackle, sack). Pat Thomas News Linebacker Pat Thomas has agreed to terms with the Buffalo Bills. Thomas appeared in 12 games with nine starts during the 2008 season with Kansas City and had a career-high 54 total tackles (39 solo). In his four-year career, Thomas has played in 30 games with 10 starts and has 61 tackles (49 solo). Roscoe Parrish News The official team Web site reports Bills WR/PR Roscoe Parrish tweaked his right calf in a minicamp on Tuesday while catching punts. He emerged from the locker room with the calf wrapped with an ice pack, but he says he'll be fine. The injury does not appear to be serious. |
