Maake Kemoeatu News The Carolina Panthers have placed starting defensive tackle Maake Kemoeatu on injured reserve, ending his season the same day he underwent surgery on his torn right Achilles' tendon. Kemoeatu was injured minutes into Carolina's first training camp practice Monday. Kemoeatu said Tuesday he was holding out hope of returning for the last month of the season, but the Panthers likely couldn't hold a roster spot that long. Injury Achilles' - IR. Out for the season Muhsin Muhammad News Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad, who missed Week 8 at Arizona, remained on the practice report in preparation for Week 9 at New Orleans. He's not expected to be cleared to play until just before the start of training camp next July. Injury Ankle - Questionable for Week 9 at New Orleans Steve Smith News Panthers WR Steve Smith scored his first touchdown Week 8 at Arizona, catching a short pass in the second quarter and taking in 50 yards for the score. He finished with only three catches for 56 yards. He also had a 17-yard run. Tank Tyler News The Chiefs have traded DT Tank Tyler to the Carolina Panthers for an undisclosed draft pick in 2010. James Anderson News The Panthers have re-signed restricted free agent safety Nate Salley and linebacker James Anderson to one-year deals worth $1.01 million apiece. Both players were offered the low tender by Carolina and did not receive offers from other teams. Clubs would have had to surrender a third-round draft pick to sign Anderson and a fourth-rounder to get Salley. Anderson and Salley contributed primarily on special teams last season. Josh McCown News The Burlington County Times reports that the Eagles won't have the chance to re-sign QB A.J. Feeley because the Panthers have picked him up. He's expected to take a backup role in Carolina after the foot injury to Panthers backup Josh McCown in Week 1. ESPN reports that McCown is out for the season. Injury Foot - IR. Out for the season Jeff Otah No Updates Dexter Jackson News The Buccaneers have released underachieving wide receiver Dexter Jackson, a second-round draft pick out of Appalachian State in 2008. He appeared in the first seven games of last season, primarily as a kick returner with limited success before losing the kick return job to undrafted free agent Clifton Smith, who went on become a Pro Bowl selection. The Bucs announced the move before practice Monday. Jackson didn't have any receptions as a rookie and has been slowed this preseason by an ankle injury. Everette Brown News Rookie DE Everette Brown, who missed the Dallas game, said he has a high left ankle sprain. He first hurt his ankle in the season opener, then aggravated it in practice last week. Brown said he hopes to be ready for Washington Oct. 11. Matt Moore News Panthers QB Matt Moore got to play much of the fourth quarter Week 8 at Arizona after starter Jake Delhomme left the game with a chest contusion. The Panthers didn't ask Moore to do much other than hand off, though. He threw one incompletion and took a knee at the end, finishing with minus-1 yards rushing. Thomas Davis News Panthers LB Thomas Davis recorded his second interception of the season Week 8 at Arizona, setting a career high. He also had seven tackles, including four solo. He entered the season with only one interception in his career. Jonathan Stewart News Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (Achilles' tendon) returned to practice Thursday, which is his customary routine after sitting out Wednesday. He is expected to play in Week 9 at New Orleans although he was listed as questionable for the game on Friday, practicing in full again Friday. Harris missed his third straight day of practice today with a knee injury and is listed as doubtful. Quinton Teal would likely get the start in his place. Louis Leonard News The Carolina Panthers have signed defensive tackle Antwon Burton to replace Louis Leonard, who broke his left ankle in Sunday's loss to Atlanta and was placed on injured reserve. Burton is Carolina's latest big body to help fill the hole at defensive tackle after Maake Kemoeatu ruptured his Achilles' tendon in training camp. Injury Ankle - IR. DeAngelo Williams News The Panthers visit the Saints in Week 9, and DeAngelo Williams' Fantasy owners will be hoping the RB can repeat the form he showed in the last meeting with New Orleans, when he racked up 178 yards rushing. New Orleans is a much better defense this season though, as they rank 11th vs. the run. The Saints have allowed nine scores on the ground. Hollis Thomas News Panthers DL Hollis Thomas tackled RB Fred Jackson in the end zone for a safety in the second quarter Week 7 against the Bills. Thomas finished with four tackles, two solo. Jake Delhomme News Carolina QB Jake Delhomme (chest) proved he was fine to play Week 9 at New Orleans by going through a full practiceall week. Delhomme was taken to a hospital after being hit in the chest in Week 8 but results came back negative and he should be fine for the game Sunday. In two games against the Saints last year, Delhomme completed 14 passes in each for 195 and 250 yards and combined for three touchdowns and no interceptions. In fact, in his last five games against the Saints he's thrown eight touchdowns and just one pick. Delhomme is considered probable for the team's Week 9 game. Injury Chest - Probable for Week 9 at New Orleans Eddie Canonico News On Wednesday, the Panthers put DE Julius Peppers on Injured Reserve. Taking Peppers' place on the roster is kicker Rhys Lloyd, signed from Baltimore's practice squad to give Carolina a stronger leg for kickoffs. John Kasay has a league-low two touchbacks and has put five kickoffs out of bounds. The Panthers also signed receiver Travis Taylor, who played briefly with St. Louis and Oakland this season. Taylor replaces center Justin Hartwig, who was placed on Injured Reserve Monday with a knee injury. The Panthers added two players to the practice squad on Wednesday: former Wake Forest safety Patrick Ghee and defensive back Eddie Canonico, who has played in the Arena Football League. Julius Peppers News Panthers DL Julius Peppers, who entered the game with five sacks in his last three, made even more noise Week 8 at Arizona with an interception that he returned for a touchdown in the second quarter. He also had a sack -- one of his two tackles on the day -- and forced a fumble. Captain Munnerlyn News Panthers DB Captain Munnerlyn, who mostly contributes on special teams, left Week 7 against the Bills in the fourth quarter with leg cramps.
