David Patten
News
According to the team web site, Browns WR David Patten is excited about the opportunity to compete for playing time in Cleveland. The Browns are looking for a No. 2 WR, and Patten will battle rookies Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi and fellow veteran Mike Furrey for the job. "Blessing -- that's the operative word," Patten said. "That's the word. I've been very blessed. This game is so grueling, so physical. (Lasting this long) comes down to doing the small things day in and day out. It's been a long road. In the early going there were a lot of disappointments, a lot of frustrations. But I always had that self drive, self confidence, the faith not to allow opinions of others to sway me one way or other. The bottom line is perseverance, stay to it, being committed. Here 13 years later I'm still having the last laugh."
Josh Cribbs
News
Browns offensive coordinator Brian Daboll said the team plans to use WR Joshua Cribbs, normally a return specialist, more on offense this year. "We've been using him as a receiver right now," Daboll said. "Again, in terms of installing a system, there is a lot of information that we put in these guys each day. Right now, he's been playing receiver, that's where he has been slotted. As far as how we use him, that will depend each week on game plan." Daboll is looking forward to working more with Cribbs in training camp. "Cribbs is a good kid," Daboll said. "He is smart. You can tell he loves the game of football. He is very passionate about his job. He fits right into the room with the other guys we've got."
Brady Quinn
News
Browns offensive coordinator Brian Daboll met with the media earlier this week and addressed the QB battle between Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. Daboll said "the best player is going to win it." Daboll refuted an earlier report by head coach Eric Mangini that said Quinn has a leg up in the competition because he's more familiar with the new offense. Anderson also has a calf injury, which has limited him in offseason workouts. So, is Quinn ahead coming into training camp? "No," Daboll said.
Robert Royal
News
The Akron Beacon Journal reports Browns TE Steve Heiden, who tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee Dec. 15, will battle Robert Royal and Martin Rucker for Kellen Winslow's old job if he's ready for training camp.
Hank Poteat
News
The Cleveland Browns signed cornerback Hank Poteat on Monday. Poteat, an unrestricted free agent, had two interceptions, a sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery last season for the New York Jets. A favorite of new Browns coach Eric Mangini, Poteat spent the last three seasons with the Jets. All four of his career interceptions have come in the last two seasons. The 31-year-old Poteat was a third-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2000 and played three seasons there. He has also played with Tampa Bay and New England
Jerome Harrison
News
Browns offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has been impressed with the running backs on the team. He said RB Jamal Lewis still has enough in the tank to be effective this year. "I was on the offensive side, but I remember that run he had against the Jets," Daboll said. "I wasn't happy that day he had it. He is a tough, hard-nosed runner, smart. I am anxious to see him when we get some pads on with this offense." He also likes what he sees from Jerome Harrison. "I've been very impressed," Daboll said. "He has been great in the classroom. He has come out on the practice fields, he has been there everyday. He works extremely hard. He has good talent. He has been a hard worker."

Roderick Hood
News
The Browns have signed free agent cornerback Rod Hood, a starter for Arizona in last season's Super Bowl. Hood spent the past two seasons with the Cardinals. He started 14 games last season, recording 40 tackles and one interception. He also played on special teams and blocked a field goal and returned it 68 yards for a touchdown. He had five interceptions in 2007.
Shaun Rogers
News
Browns Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers is taking part in the club's voluntary offseason workout program after missing the first week in an apparent rift with new coach Eric Mangini. In a video clip on the team's Web site, Rogers is shown shaking hands and hugging a teammate in the weight room at the Browns' training facility in Berea. Mangini said at the owner's meetings in California that he has spoken with Rogers, who had reportedly asked to be traded or released. Rogers made the Pro Bowl in his first season with Cleveland. The Browns acquired the 6-foot-4, 350-pounder in a trade last March with Detroit for cornerback Leigh Bodden. He arrived with a reputation of being uncooperative with the media, overweight and having a poor work ethic. However, the 30-year-old was no trouble and had a solid first season.

Kenyon Coleman
News
The New York Jets selected QB Mark Sanchez with the fifth pick of the NFL draft after trading with the Cleveland Browns. The former USC star with the powerful arm gives the Jets a franchise QB after Brett Favre came out of retirement for one season. The pick was the first for new coach Rex Ryan, who will have Sanchez compete with Kellen Clemens for the starting job. Sanchez threw for 3,965 yards and 41 touchdowns in 16 starts with the Trojans, but the Jets were confident in selecting him despite his lack of experience. The Jets acquired the pick from Cleveland and former coach Eric Mangini for their first-round pick, No. 17 overall, their second-round pick this year, and DE Kenyon Coleman, DB Abram Elam and QB Brett Ratliff.

Braylon Edwards
News
In an interview with Fanhouse.com, Browns WR Braylon Edwards sets the record straight on his potential trade to New York this offseason and is prepared to play well in the wake of a "fresh start." Edwards was reportedly close to being dealt to the Giants in April, but he understands that pro football is a business and that he's coming back to the Browns with no ill feelings. As for 2009, Edwards knows what he must do to atone for last year's blunders. "I do feel like it's a fresh start for everybody," Edwards said. "Fresh start for the quarterbacks [Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson] and coach [Eric] Mangini. Fresh start for me coming off a subpar year and it's time to show people what I can do."
Injury
Undisclosed - Probable for start of training camp
Donte' Stallworth
News
Browns WR Donte Stallworth, serving a 30-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter in the March 14 death of 59-year-old Mario Reyes, released a statement Tuesday after the Miami Herald reported on its Web site citing unidentified sources that the receiver tested positive for marijuana after the accident. Stallworth's lawyer stated any facts surrounding the case that might soon become public were fully known by law enforcement officers, prosecutors, defense attorneys and the judge when the plea agreement was reached. Those facts could include the presence of marijuana in Stallworth's blood, according to the lawyer's statement. An individual can test positive for marijuana weeks after its use, meaning its presence in Stallworth's blood doesn't necessarily mean he was under the influence at the time of the accident. While the marijuana hasn't appeared to play a role in Stallworth's criminal case, it could affect his standing with the NFL and its drug policies.
Injury
Suspension - Suspended indefinitely. Questionable to play this season

The 5-foot-11, 225-pounder will battle in training camp with Jerome Harrison to fill Wright's role as a part-time back behind Jamal Lewis.
