The San Francisco 49ers have waived five players in the first round of cutdowns. The team released WRs Mark Bradford and Chris Francies, CBs Carlos Thomas and Jahi Word-Daniels and kicker Alex Romero. Two of the Niners' deepest positions are at wideout and in the secondary.

Updating a previous report, the Lions have confirmed that TE Brandon Pettigrew will miss the rest of the 2009 season with a knee injury that will require surgery. Speculation is that Pettigrew tore his left ACL.

Playing on Thanksgiving vs. the Packers, Lions WR Bryant Johnson caught one pass for 17 yards.

The Lions signed linebacker Zach Follett from their practice squad, released linebacker Darnell Bing and put wide receiver Adam Jennings on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Detroit drafted Follett in the seventh round and are giving him a chance to replace Bing on special teams.

The Bills got down to 53 players on Saturday, waiving QB Matt Baker, LB Alvin Bowen, DE Copeland Bryan, TE Tyson DeVree, DE Ataefiok Etukeren, RB Bruce Hall, DB Cary Harris, WR C.J. Playing on Thanksgiving vs. the Packers, Lions QB Matthew Stafford started in spite of being listed as doubtful and came out on fire with a touchdown to Calvin Johnson. Then, he fell apart, throwing four interceptions while completing 20 of 43 passes for just 213 yards. Stafford also had 21 yards on three carries. Stafford's touchdown came on a 1-yard strike to Calvin Johnson, who caught a low pass in the end zone away from cornerback Charles Woodson. Stafford's first interception came on a third down in the first quarter when Nick Collins leaped for the ball and got his feet down in bounds just before falling out of bounds. His second was swiped by Tramon Williams, again on a sideline pass in the second quarter. His third interception came early in the third quarter when he threw low for Bryant Johnson and Woodson dove for it and got it before hitting the turf. And his fourth interception was a nifty pick by Woodson, who got in front of Calvin Johnson and took the pick to the house for a touchdown.

The AFC champion New England Patriots released four players a day after wrapping up their first winless preseason since 1990 with a 19-14 loss to the New York Giants. The cuts of tackle Steve Fifita, offensive lineman Jimmy Martin, cornerback Jeff Shoate and tight end Jonathan Stupar leave New England with 71 players before Saturday's deadline.

Detroit LB Larry Foote was the team’s top defensive performer on Sunday in a Week 11 win over the Browns. Foote made 12 total tackles in the game and was the only player to sack Browns QB Brady Quinn.

The Detroit Lions have signed defensive back Demarcus Faggins and wide receiver John Standeford. Faggins played the previous seven seasons for the Houston Texans, who drafted him in the sixth round in 2002 with the 173rd overall pick. He has played in 82 games with 36 starts, recording five interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Standeford played in nine games for Detroit in 2008, starting four. He had 15 receptions for 244 yards.

The Detroit Lions announced that they have traded QB Kevin O’Connell to the New York Jets for an undisclosed future draft pick. The team also released DE Ikaika Alama-Francis, CB Cletis Gordon and WR Adam Jennings. Seven players were signed Sunday by the Lions to the team’s practice squad, including: WR John Broussard, TE Carson Butler, RB Tristan Davis, LB Zack Follett, C Dan Gerberry, TE Dan Gronkowski and T Lydon Murtha.

The Lions announced that they have placed LB Jordon Dizon on Injured Reserve, released WR Paul Raymond from their practice squad and signed LB Chris Graham to their practice squad. The Lions also claimed WR Chris Hannon off waivers from the Miami Dolphins.
