In the Texans' Week 9 loss at the Colts, PK Kris Brown hit one of two field goals -- a 56-yarder -- but missed the game-tying kick from 42 yards out with a second left. He also nailed two extra points.

Texans QB Matt Schaub got off to a bad start at the Colts in Week 9 but rebounded to finish with 311 yards on 32 of 43 passing with a short touchdown lob to Ryan Moats and two interceptions (one off a tipped pass). He went up against the Colts who were without veteran cornerbacks Marlin Jackson and Kelvin Hayden. Schaub nearly led the Texans in rushing with 21 yards thanks to a 19-yard scamper in the game. Schaub was especially effective in hurry-up situations toward the end of the first and second halves.

The Chicago Bears cut a pair of first-day draft picks in the 2007 NFL Draft in DE Dan Bazuin and LB Michael Okwo on Saturday. Among the other cuts to get the roster down to 53 players were: DE Ervin Baldwin, CB Trey Brown, DE Joe Clermond, WR Mike Hass, LB Joey LaRocque, TE Fontel Mines, DE Nick Osborn, S Leonard Peters, RB P.J. Pope, WR Brandon Rideau and TE Marcus Stone.

The Atlanta Falcons have released quarterback D.J. Shockley from their practice squad and signed running back Antone Smith. Smith is expected to be with the team for Wednesday's practice.

Texans DL Tim Bulman recorded his third sack of the season Week 10 against the Ravens, and all have come in the last four games. He finished with two solo tackles.

The Texans have waived DB Troy Nolan, DE Stanley McGlover and RB Boomer Grigsby.

Houston DB Jacques Reeves (finger) has been listed as probable for the team's Week 5 game at Arizona.

Along with adjusting to the size of the players, Texans second-round pick Connor Barwin is receiving a crash course in learning Houston's defense and on improving his technique. His learning curve might be a bit steeper than most rookies after spending just one year on defense in college after being a tight end for the first part of his career at Cincinnati. He immediately excelled at the position, piling up a Big East-best 12 sacks and finishing with 53 tackles. He broke an NCAA record for most sacks in a player's first season on defense. Barwin also starred on special teams for the Bearcats, blocking three kicks in 2008, which may help him get on the field even earlier for the Texans. Kubiak is impressed with his work ethic but knows Barwin has a lot to learn.

The Houston Texans signed the following players to their practice squad on Sunday: LB Kevis Coley, WR Darnell Jenkins, DT Gabe Long, DE Jesse Nading, CB Derrick Roberson, WR Mark Simmons and RB Darius Walker. Also, the team signed DE Stanley McClover from the Carolina Panthers off waivers.

The Houston Chronicle reports Texans rookie CB Glover Quin has agreed to a four-year contract. Quin, who played at New Mexico, will be the nickel CB when training camp begins July 31. He'll compete for playing time behind starters Jacques Reeves and Fred Bennett.

Texans WR Andre Johnson caught 10 passes for 103 yards at Indianapolis in Week 9, leading the team in both categories. The Colts played without two of their veteran cornerbacks and it showed as Johnson out-muscled the young corners he faced for many receptions. Johnson was shaken up after a big hit to his back but he finished the game.

Texans rookie LB Brian Cushing (eight tackles) and LB DeMeco Ryans (eight tackles) led the way for Houston defenders in a Week 1 loss to the Jets. Also contributing were DL Mario Williams (seven tackles, tackle for loss) and LB Zac Diles (four tackles, two for loss).

The Houston Chronicle reports the Texans have signed sixth-round pick Brice McCain from Utah. McCain, a cornerback, signed a four-year contract worth $1.8 million, including a signing bonus of $101,750.

The Chicago Tribune reports that FB Jason Davis was signed off the Bears' practice squad by the Raiders on Monday, according to his agent.

The Texans listed the following players as inactive for Week 6 against Cincinnati: QB Dan Orlovsky, WR Glenn Martinez, DB Nick Ferguson, DB Anwaun Molden, DL DelJuan Robinson, TE Anthony Hill and DL Shaun Cody.

The Lions signed linebacker Zach Follett from their practice squad, released linebacker Darnell Bing and put wide receiver Adam Jennings on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Detroit drafted Follett in the seventh round and are giving him a chance to replace Bing on special teams.

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak confirmed Monday that TE Owen Daniels would miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL suffered in Week 8 at Buffalo. He's expected to land on season-ending injured reserve soon.

Knee - IR. Out for the season

Texans RB Steve Slaton didn't start at Indianapolis in Week 9 and didn't have nearly as many touches as Ryan Moats. Slaton had six carries for 17 yards with a goal-line score and three catches for 12 yards; Moats had 16 rushes and three catches including a touchdown reception. But by our count, Slaton had more playing time as he was in on 39 of the Texans' 69 plays including every single play inside of 2:00 of each half. Additionally, Slaton took the field on all but one third down play for the Texans.

In the Texans' Week 9 loss at the Colts, FB Vonta Leach caught a pass for 4 yards.

Houston Texans CB Dunta Robinson has been fined $25,000 by the team for the "pay me Rick" shoes he wore during Sunday's game. Robinson was given the fine for conduct detrimental to the team. It was first reported by the Houston Chronicle. The shoes targeted general manager Rick Smith. Robinson has been that he and the Texans were unable to reach a long-term contract despite signing his franchise tender more than a week ago. He says he won't appeal the fine, but told The Associated Press on Thursday that he wants to talk to Smith about the money being donated to a Boys and Girls Club or a needy family. Robinson started Sunday after less than a week of practice and had one tackle in Houston's 24-7 loss to the New York Jets.

Houston DB Jacques Reeves and LB Kevin Bentley both recovered fumbles Week 16 at Oakland. Bentley also had six tackles while Reeves had two.

Texans LB Chaun Thompson was holding his knee and remained down after making a special teams tackle on punt coverage in Week 3 against the Jaguars. He was helped off the field and attended to by trainers on the sideline.

He also fumbled deep in Colts territory. By our count, Moats was in on 30 of the Texans' 69 plays from scrimmage (Slaton was in on the other 39) but none inside of 2:00. He had the majority of work on first and 10 plays and only took one snap on third down.
