"Anthony Gonzalez, all he's done is continue to get better and better each and every year."

Leg - Probable for start of training camp

Indianapolis DL Raheem Brock had a very nice game Thursday night against the Jaguars in Jacksonville as the Colts won and clinched a playoff berth. Brock picked up six tackles and added two sacks of David Garrard. He also forced a fumble in the game.

The Indianapolis Colts reportedly have re-signed linebacker Freddy Keiaho, a two-year starter who was an unrestricted free agent. The Indianapolis Star reported that Keiaho's agent confirmed the signing but would not disclose terms of the deal. Keiaho was a third-round draft pick in 2006 and started 25 games over the last three seasons. He had a career-high 114 tackles in 2008.

The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed running back Lance Ball and linebacker Buster Davis. Terms of the new contracts were not disclosed Tuesday. Ball joined the team's practice squad in October and was activated for the final regular-season game against Tennessee, totaling 83 yards on 13 carries. Davis, claimed off waivers from Detroit, was in six games with Indianapolis last season, starting three of the final four at middle linebacker. He originally was a third-round draft pick by Arizona in 2007.

Colts DB Kelvin Hayden, DB Jamie Silva, LB Jordan Senn, LB Buster Davis, WR Roy Hall, TE Tom Santi and DL Daniel Muir have all been ruled inactive for Week 10 at Pittsburgh.

Notable Colts who dressed but did not record an offensive stat in Week 3 vs. Jacksonville include: TE Ben Utecht, WR Terrence Wilkins, RB Ran Carthon, TE/LS Justin Snow, TE Bryan Fletcher, WR Aaron Moorehead and backup QB Jim Sorgi.

The Colts have signed linebacker Adam Seward, a free agent who played the past four years with Carolina. Seward was a fifth-round draft pick out of UNLV in 2005 and started two of 40 games with the Panthers. He appeared in only nine games last season as he was hobbled by an ankle injury. The Colts also waived reserve running back Clifton Dawson, who played in 13 games over two seasons and totaled 64 yards and one touchdown on 30 carries.

The Indianapolis Star reports Colts rookie QB Curtis Painter is trying to be the No. 2 option behind Peyton Manning in a battle with Jim Sorgi, who has been the Colts' No. 2 quarterback since 2004. When the Colts selected Painter in the sixth round of April's draft, it was the first QB the organization had taken since Sorgi. "Anything can happen and in camp we'll get a real good idea," Painter said. "I'm hoping I can make the roster."

According to the team web site, Colts coach Jim Caldwell said RB Joseph Addai could take some time in his recovery from offseason knee surgery. "I think you'll see him come along and develop," Caldwell said. "He's going through a process right now of getting things back to where he feels good and comfortable. He had a few things (cleaned) up here and there, but overall, you're going to see: Joe's going to have a fine year."

Knee - Probable for start of training camp

The Tennessean reports the Titans have released WR Roydell Williams as part of their cuts to get down to 53 men on their roster. Also released were S Calvin Lowry, DT Antonio Johnson, WR Biren Ealy, DE Sean Conover, TE Jamie Petrowski, FB Casey Cramer, DE Eric Taylor and FB Jeremy Cain.

The Indianapolis Star reports that Colts DT Quinn Pitcock has chosen to retire.

Colts WR Samuel Giguere has been out since breaking a bone in his leg during practice last month. The Colts didn't say which leg Giguere hurt, but he's expected to be ready for the start of training camp in August.

Leg - Questionable for the start of training camp

Colts TE Jacob Tamme, TE Justin Snow, WR Roy Hall and backup QB Jim Sorgi were all active for Week 16's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night. None recorded any stats in the game, however. Sorgi didn't play as Peyton Manning never came off the field.

At the NFL Rookie Symposium in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Colts rookie RB Donald Brown told CBSSports.com in an exclusive interview that he's not concerned about earning a starting job ahead of Joseph Addai. "I'm just looking to go in and contribute any way possible and help the team out," Brown said. "I just want to put my best effort forward every day. I want to help out in any way possible. We'll see what's going to happen. ... I'm not worried about being the starter, being the backup or being a third-down back. I'm just worried about going in and helping any way I can."

The Colts listed the following players as inactive for Week 17 against Tennessee: DB Bob Sanders, DB Melvin Bullitt, RB Dominic Rhodes, LB Freddy Keiaho, LB Gary Brackett, DL Eric Foster, DL Dwight Freeney and DL Robert Mathis.

The Indianapolis Colts have signed kicker Shane Andrus, the club announced Tuesday. Andrus originally signed as a free agent with the Colts in 2006 and also served stints with the club in 2007 and 2008. He also has spent time with the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Six defensive starters missed Wednesday's practice for the Colts. Among those not participating were DB Bob Sanders (knee), last season's defensive player of the year, DL Robert Mathis (toe) LB Gary Brackett (quadriceps), DL Dwight Freeney (not injury related) and DB Tim Jennings (not injury related). Also, DB Kelvin Hayden (hamstring) might be ready to go for the first time since Oct. 5.

The Sports Xchange reports that Colts rookie LB Philip Wheeler has begun rehab work on his injured knee. Wheeler underwent minor surgery on the knee two weeks ago and could be back on the practice field sooner rather than later.

The Colts have listed the following players as being inactive for Week 14 against the Bengals: LB Tyjuan Hagler, LB Gary Brackett, LB Rufus Alexander, TE Jamie Petrowski, WR Roy Hall, DL Curtis Johnson and DL Keyunta Dawson.

The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts are trying to find a No. 3 WR with Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez expected to start. So far, Pierre Garcon is in the midst of a solid summer and probably is the front-runner to fill the role. Garcon has good speed and size (6-foot, 210 pounds) and caught most of what was thrown to him during the OTAs. The paper reports that Garcon should be pushed by fourth-round draft pick Austin Collie and Roy Hall.

Indianapolis put tight end Tom Santi and cornerback Nick Graham on injured reserve, ending their seasons. Santi, a sixth-round draft pick in April, made two starts this season but missed the last three games with a shoulder injury. Coach Tony Dungy said he was uncertain whether Santi would have surgery. Graham played in the last four games after signing as a free agent. He hurt his left ankle during Sunday's victory over Houston and was taken to the locker room on a golf cart. Dungy said X-rays were negative.

Peyton Manning is satisfied with what he's hearing from the Colts about the roles of retired assistants Tom Moore and Howard Mudd. Ten days after complaining about the uncertainty of Indianapolis' coaching staff, Manning said on Friday that he has a better understanding of the situation and will move on. Though Manning still doesn't have all the answers, he realizes team president Bill Polian and coach Jim Caldwell don't either. The three-time league MVP and one-time Super Bowl winner met with Polian and Caldwell between media appearances. Apparently, that was enough to prompt Manning to say he has a better grasp of what's going on. Mudd and Moore retired earlier this offseason and were re-hired as "consultants."

Coach Tony Dungy has ruled running back Dominic Rhodes out of Sunday's regular-season finale vs. Tennessee. He likely would have played if it were a playoff game, but Dungy wants them to rest. "Dom's down a little bit, so he's definitely out of this game," Dungy said. Signs point to Joseph Addai playing (Dungy said that he's ready), but he'll be limited. Chad Simpson and Najeh Davenport will split whatever carries Addai doesn't pick up.

Kelvin Hayden agreed to a five-year deal worth $43 million Wednesday night, hours before the Colts were prepared to use the franchise tag to prevent him from hitting the free-agent market, The Indianapolis Star reported on its Web site. Hayden intercepted three passes each of the past two seasons but is best remembered for his acrobatic interception in the Super Bowl, which he returned for a touchdown to seal the victory over Chicago. Late last week, however, Polian said the Colts likely would use the franchise tag if they couldn't reach a deal before Thursday's deadline. That would have cost the Colts about $9.9 million and would have pinched Indianapolis' salary cap situation more than it already is.

Indianapolis DB Antoine Bethea recorded 10 tackles in Week 16's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night. Colts LB Clint Session finished second on the club with seven tackles against the Jaguars in a win that clinched a playoff berth for the Colts.

DE Dwight Freeney, DE Robert Mathis and DT Keyunta Dawson did not practice Wednesday for a reason that was not injury related.

The Colts signed tight end Jamie Petrowski off Tennessee's practice squad and promoted defensive back Brandon Foster from their own practice squad. They also placed defensive backs A.J. Davis and Brannon Condren and receiver Marques Hagans on the practice squad. Condren played eight games with the Colts last season, but was cut Aug. 30. To make room for the newcomers, the team released tight end Eric Butler and quarterback David Greene from the practice squad.

The Colts picked him in the fourth round of the 2005 draft out of California and he has played in 55 games with six starts.

"There's a lot of competition we have on the team right now," Collie said. "Your goal is to play. Your goal is to get on the field and contribute and help the team in any way. That is my goal. But setting goals within goals, the tiny goals that are going to help me get there are just learning the playbook, getting to know the system, getting on the same page as Peyton (Manning). I have to worry about those things first whether I worry about if I'm going to start or not. The guys I'm competing with have been here and already know the system. They can start thinking about those things right now. My only preoccupation right now is focusing on the playbook and knowing the system and making sure I'm ready for training camp. If I get the No. 3 spot then that's fantastic. That's what I'm shooting for."

The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed defensive tackle Ed Johnson after they waived him last season following an arrest on a drug possession charge. Now, the Colts hope the 6-foot-2, 296-pound run stopper has learned to take the team's rules seriously during the time away. "We are giving Ed Johnson another opportunity to play for the Indianapolis Colts," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said in a statement Tuesday. "We dismissed Ed last year because he knowingly violated a team rule in the area of personal conduct. We consider every violation of a team rule or NFL policy on an individual case-by-case basis, and we evaluate a possible return to the team on that same basis."

The Indianapolis Star reports Colts RB Mike Hart is ready to return from last year's knee injury. "I'm doing everything -- run around, cut," Hart said. "This is the time you feel like you want to do more, but you have to limit yourself because you can still develop things like tendinitis if you try to rush it too fast." Hart, a sixth-round pick in 2008, damaged the ACL in his right knee Oct. 12 against Baltimore. "The full-speed stuff I stay out of because you won't want to get tangled up and I don't want to do too much right now," he said. "Oh, yeah, I'll be ready to go, full go."

The Indianapolis Star reports that Colts receivers Roy Hall and Pierre Garcon are already in a competition for the No. 3 WR job in the offense. They have combined for zero touchdowns in their short careers. Rookie Austin Collie is also in the mix. "Every one of those guys, I've told them, 'There's a receiver's spot open right now,'" QB Peyton Manning said last week. Manning went on to add that Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and Anthony Gonzalez are clearly the top receivers in this offense now that Marvin Harrison has been released.

The Indianapolis Star reports Colts DB Bob Sanders isn't doing any on-field work with his teammates while he continues to recover from the physical demands of the 2008 season. "I feel good," Sanders said. "Basically that's all I'm going to say. My soul is good and I'm in good spirits. I'm doing all right." Sanders has missed 35 of a possible 80 regular-season games because of injury during his five-year career. He missed 10 games last season after undergoing surgery on his right knee.

The Colts listed DB Brandon Foster, LB Buster Davis, TE Jamie Petrowski, WR Roy Hall, DL Daniel Muir and DL Curtis Johnson among their inactives for Week 13 at Cleveland.

The Bengals have waived WR Steve Sanders, terminated the practice squad contract of DB Travis Key and signed former Rams DB Hamza Abdullah to the active roster.

Indianapolis hosts New England on Sunday night and has listed the following players as being inactive for the game: DB Dante Hughes, DB Kelvin Hayden, RB Clifton Dawson, LB Freddie Keiaho, WR Roy Hall, TE Tom Santi and DL Daniel Muir.

"You don't like to use titles like, 'make or break,' Hall said recently, “but this is definitely a time for me to take advantage of an opportunity. The door's definitely open. Nothing is etched in stone. That position is definitely open for the taking." Hall is trying to replace the departed Marvin Harrison behind Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez as the No. 3 WR. He is competing with second-year veteran Pierre Garcon and rookie Austin Collie. "It's a real big year for him," coach Jim Caldwell said of Hall. "We need him to come through."

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Marlin Jackson said he is recovering well two months after his season-ending knee injury. Jackson said he's fine after two surgeries and should be running in 1 1/2 months. "Rehab is going really well. It's ahead of schedule, which is where I'm trying to stay," said Jackson, speaking at a pizza party he threw for kids who maintained good grades Wednesday at the Shepherd Community Center on the east side of Indianapolis.

The Colts lost backup CB Nick Graham with a left ankle injury in the first half of Week 11 against the Texans. Coach Tony Dungy said X-rays were negative.

Colts linebacker Gary Brackett will miss Saturday's playoff game at San Diego with a cracked bone in his lower right leg. It's the fifth straight game Brackett, the defensive captain, will miss. He hasn't played since Nov. 30 when he was hurt at Cleveland. "Gary will not play this week, but he is making progress," coach Tony Dungy said Tuesday. "We'll visit it again next week, if we can."

Colts defensive back Michael Coe will be placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his left knee last week. Coach Tony Dungy had said Coe was likely to miss at least eight weeks and Indianapolis hoped to wait until the two roster cutdowns before making a decision. The plan changed Tuesday when Dungy announced they couldn't wait for Coe to return because they needed a roster spot. "We wanted to hold off as long as we could, but realistically he would be out two months, so we would have had to carry 52 instead of 53 for that time," Dungy said. "It's tough because he did a great job rehabbing his shoulder, and then he had a freak injury that ruined his season."

According to the team web site, the Colts issued a statement on kicker Adam Vinatieri, who recently underwent right hip surgery. The statement said: "This condition, which had existed for more than a year, became more bothersome recently. After consultation with our doctors and others, the surgical procedure was deemed the most effective course of action at this time." The surgery was performed in Colorado by the same hip doctor who did the operation on New York Yankees' third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

Hip - Questionable for start of training camp

Colts TE Gijon Robinson caught four passes for 51 yards in Week 16's victory over the Jaguars on Thursday night. Robinson has four catches in each of his last two games for Indianapolis.

The Colts have re-signed linebacker Tyjuan Hagler. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Hagler spent his first four NFL seasons with the Colts, starting seven games in 2007 when he had career-highs in tackles (60), solo tackles (34) and sacks (one). He also forced one fumble and recorded another. But he injured his pectoral muscle last summer and missed the first seven games. He wound up starting three games and finishing with 21 tackles and one forced fumble.
