The Chiefs released CB Jackie Bates, TE Tom Crabtree, DE Dion Gales, DE Bobby Greenwood, WR Taurus Johnson, WR Ashley Lelie, DT Derek Lokey, S Bernard Pollard, S Ricky Price, LB Zach Thomas, RB Javarris Williams and WR Rodney Wright on Saturday.

The Chiefs signed DB A.J. Davis, OG Anthony Oakley and DE Jermaine McGhee to their practice squad. To make room, they release WR Micah Rucker, DB Travarous Bain and DE Jason Parker.

Chiefs defenders who gave a helping hand in Week 6 vs. the Cowboys include: LB Corey Mays (nine total tackles), LB Demorrio Williams (seven total tackles) and DL Wallace Gilberry (solo tackle, sack).

Kansas City LB Mike Vrabel notched his first sack of the season in a Week 6 win over Washington. Vrabel added five tackles in the win.

Chiefs WR Terrance Copper did not have an offensive statistic in Week 9 at Jacksonville. He was not thrown to once in the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed free agent defensive tackle Kenny Smith to their 53-man roster. He replaces Tank Tyler, who was traded to Carolina for a fifth-round draft pick. The 6-foot-4, 303-pound Smith spent the 2005 season on injured reserve with Oakland and attended New England's training camp each of the past two years. He played in 30 games with New Orleans from 2001-04.

Jarrad Page, a three-year starter at free safety, has been placed on injured reserve by the Chiefs. On Monday coach Todd Haley said he had been injured during practice last Thursday but gave no other comments. Page was listed on the injury report in Week 7 with a shoulder problem. The Chiefs signed free agent cornerback Travis Daniels to take his roster spot. He attended training camp with the Chiefs this year but was released before the season began.

The Chiefs listed the following players as inactive for Week 9 at Jacksonville: QB Matt Gutierrez, DB Donald Washington, DB Jon McGraw, WR Bobby Wade, TE Jake O'Connell, TE Brad Cottam, LB Pierre Walters.

The Chiefs made a roster move early Sunday, releasing WR Quinten Lawrence and promoting WR Lance Long from the practice squad.

Kansas City added three more players to stabilize a hobbled roster, signing linebacker Curtis Gatewood and defensive end Andy Studebaker to two-year contracts, and promoting running back Jackie Battle from the practice squad. Defensive tackle Antwon Burton also was added to the practice squad.

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel struggled for much of the team's Week 9 game at Jacksonville, but he came on strong late in the fourth quarter as the team staged a late rally in a 24-21 loss. He finished the game with 262 passing yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

Once again, the injury-ravaged Chiefs are scouring the landscape for usable, unemployed professional football players. They're in the market for linebackers and cornerbacks. Coach Herman Edwards said linebackers Derrick Johnson and Pat Thomas and defensive end Brian Johnston are all out for this week's game against New Orleans. Questionable are defensive ends Tamba Hali and Turk McBride, cornerbacks Patrick Surtain and Brandon Flowers and safety DaJuan Morgan.

The Chiefs announced Friday that the club has signed its first-round draft pick DE Tyson Jackson. Jackson joined the Chiefs as the club's first-round selection (third overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. He saw action in 53 contests (39 starts) at LSU, registering 122 tackles (55 solo), 18.5 sacks, 27 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and 18 passes defensed. He added 33 QB pressures and one interception. The Chiefs also waived LB Weston Dacus on Friday. Dacus played in eight games for Kansas City in 2008.

Chiefs WR Mark Bradley caught one pass for 12 yards in Week 9 at Jacksonville. He was thrown to four times in the game.

Chiefs TE Sean Ryan did not have a catch in Week 9 at Jacksonville. He was not thrown to once in the game.

Chiefs DL Glenn Dorsey shook off a leg injury to make two tackles in Saturday's preseason loss to the Seahawks.

In the Chiefs' Week 1 loss at the Ravens, notable defensive performances include DB Mike Brown (12 total tackles), LB Tamba Hali (five total tackles, sack, forced fumble), LB Derrick Johnson (three solo tackles, interception) and DB Jon McGraw (blocked punt return for touchdown).

The Chiefs said Thursday that the club has signed its third-round choice DE Alex Magee, its fourth-round pick CB Donald Washington and its sixth-round draft pick WR Quinten Lawrence. Magee saw action in 50 contests (33 starts) at Purdue, registering 117 tackles (68 solo), six sacks, 14 tackles for loss, an interception, two passes defensed, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. Washington saw action in 37 contests (24 starts) at Ohio State, registering 102 tackles (75 solo), two interceptions returned 104 yards with a TD, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Lawrence saw action in 37 contests (32 starts) at McNeese State. He ranks 10th in school history with 99 receptions for 1,905 yards (19.4 avg.) and 15 TDs. He added 22 kickoff returns for 419 yards (18.9 avg.) and took his lone career punt return back for a 70-yard TD.

Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop converted 2 of 3 field goals in Week 9 at Jacksonville. He added one extra point to give him seven points in the game.

Kansas City LB Tamba Hali forced a safety as he sacked QB Todd Collins in the end zone late in the 4th quarter of their Week 6 win at Washington. The sack iced the game for the Chiefs. Hali finished with four tackles in the game.

The Chiefs placed RB Jackie Battle on IR because of a shoulder injury Wednesday. Coach Todd Haley said Battle will likely need surgery. Battle saw little offensive time, but he was one of the club's best special teams players, credited with six tackles.

The Packers released tight end James Adkisson from their practice squad Tuesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs waived LS Thomas Gafford, WR C.J. Jones, DT T.J. Jackson and LB Darrell Robertson on Friday. Gafford played in nine games as Kansas City's long snapper in 2008, while Jackson saw duty in four games for the Chiefs a year ago.

The Chiefs have reached a settlement with Larry Johnson and agreed Monday to withhold only one week's pay for making gay slurs instead of two. The settlement saved the two-time Pro Bowl running back about $315,000. His agent, Peter Schaffer, had threatened to take the matter to arbitration. The Chiefs refused any comment other than to say they had finalized the settlement. Schaffer told The Associated Press on Saturday night the agreement had been reached and needed only to be signed. Originally, the Chiefs suspended Johnson for two weeks until Nov. 9, including this week's game at Jacksonville. He would have lost about $630,000 if the Chiefs had not backed down and then won the appeal. Schaffer told the AP that Johnson has learned from the entire experience. He posted the slur on his Twitter account after also questioning coach Todd Haley's credentials. He then repeated the slur the next day to reporters.

For about six weeks Derrick Johnson's been riding the Kansas City bench, jerked out of the lineup for reasons that have never been made public. A linebacker with Johnson's talent can't crack the starting lineup for a team that's 1-6? He wouldn't help a defense ranked 30th out of 32 teams? First-year head coach Todd Haley says he's satisfied that Johnson is working hard. Johnson says he's doing everything he can to get back. But in the meantime, Demorrio Williams keeps playing well and giving no indication he's ready to return the job to the man who not so long ago was once hailed as the best defensive player in college football. "It stinks," Johnson said. "It stinks to not be starting or not be playing, or not be playing like I should. Not being out there on the field like I usually am. But it's made my mind stronger."
