Evans took Fujita's place Sunday and Payton said Evans filled Fujita's role well.

Sean Payton brought fullback Heath Evans to the Saints with the aim of gaining versatility on the field and leadership in the locker room. The Saints will have to settle for the latter for the rest of this season. The Saints placed Evans on injured reserve, Payton said Thursday, because of a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament tear that occurred in last Sunday's comeback victory in Miami. "That's tough," quarterback Drew Brees said. "Heath was not only a real productive player, but he's an awesome guy - an awesome locker room guy, great for that running backs room. Heath was just a real good influence on everybody," Brees continued. "He has told me that he wants to be around as much as possible. ... Hopefully he will be around and I know he will be."

Saints RB Pierre Thomas saw more carries go to Mike Bell, along with two touchdowns, but he still had a decent stat line: 92 yards on 11 carries with 11 yards on three catches. Free-agent safety Pierson Prioleau has agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints, who were looking to add depth in the defensive backfield. The 5-foot-10, 188-pound safety has played 10 years with the San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Prioleau played all 16 games with the Jaguars last season, starting once.

The Colts announced their eight-man practice squad: QB Josh Betts, RB Decori Birmingham, WRs Aaron Brown and Trent Shelton and TE Gijon Robinson were among the eight.

The Saints have added rookie quarterback Chase Daniel to the team's practice squad. The Saints also announced Sunday the team signed seven other players to the practice squad, including two 2008 draft choices - wide receiver Adrian Arrington and defensive tackle DeMario Pressley. Saints TE David Thomas continues to stay involved in the offense as he caught a touchdown and had 66 yards on four catches at the Bucs in Week 11. Thomas is seeing more playing time and has made the most of it as a short-area target that opposing teams aren't covering regularly.

Rod Coleman's NFL comeback bid is on hold. The 10-year veteran defensive lineman was among three cuts made by the New Orleans Saints on Monday as the club trimmed its roster to 75, the maximum for the final week of the preseason. The Saints also waived cornerback Greg Fassitt and receiver D'Juan Woods, who both had been injured recently. Fassitt hurt his hamstring during Saturday's exhibition game at Oakland, while Woods missed the last two preseason games with a neck injury.

Getting 11 of his 13 carries with the game out of hand in the fourth quarter, Saints RB Mike Bell scored two touchdowns and finished with 75 yards on 13 total carries in Week 11 against the Buccaneers. He also had a 5-yard catch. Bell got his knee dinged in the first half but obviously returned to finish up the game for New Orleans.

According to a report on ESPN.com, Saints RB Reggie Bush will return for Week 12 against the Patriots. Bush missed Week 11 at Tampa Bay with a knee injury, the first game he has missed this year. The report is unconfirmed since the New Orleans Times-Picayune said coach Sean Payton did not address Bush's injury Sunday.

The New Orleans Saints placed tight end Dan Campbell on injured reserve Monday, ending the 11-year veteran's season. Campbell had played in only three games in the past two seasons because of various injuries and had missed the past week of practice because of a nagging right knee injury. Campbell had arthroscopic surgery about six weeks before training camp to repair a medial collateral ligament. Saints coach Sean Payton said that the knee continued to bother him. The Saints signed Campbell to a free-agent contract in February. Payton was familiar with the tight end, who he had coached when he was an offensive assistant with the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. "He was just battling through that knee and we weren't really seeing the progress," Payton said. "I think he was a little frustrated, as well, but he's been a pretty special player in my mind and a guy that really brought some toughness."

Saints DL Remi Ayodele had only two solo tackles Week 4 against the Jets, but his biggest contribution came in the second quarter when he fell on a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
