With Jim Leonhard landing on injured-reserve on Monday, Jets DB Brodney Pool will become the starter at safety going forward. Pool has recorded 31 tackles with half a sack in 11 games this season.

Ben Hartsock, Wallace Wright and Matthew Mulligan all failed to record a stat on Sunday in a Week 17 win over the Bengals.

Jets DB Isaiah Trufant left Week 5 against the Patriots with a hamstring injury. Trufant sustained the injury in the third quarter and did not record a tackle prior to leaving the contest.

New York DB Eric Smith was listed as probable for Week 15 versus Philadelphia. He's been dealing with a knee issue.

The Jets promoted DB Tracy Wilson from their practice squad on Tuesday in an attempt to assist the struggling secondary entering Week 13. He has played on New York's practice squad the entire season.

FOXSports.com reports that free agent WR Dexter Jackson is expected to work out for the Bengals this week.

Jets RB/KR Joe McKnight (shoulder, elbow) is active for Week 16 against the Giants. He was listed as questionable on the injury report.

According to multiple reports, the Jets are now obligated to pay WR Santonio Holmes $15.25 million over the next two seasons, all but guaranteeing him a spot on the roster this year and potentially next year. His 2012 salary of $7.75M was already guaranteed, but by being on the roster on Feb. 8, 2012, his 2013 salary of $7.5M is also locked in. There was some discussion that Holmes wouldn't be retained after finishing the season on the bench and causing a rift with QB Mark Sanchez.

Jets DL Mike DeVito missed Week 13 against Washington with an MCL injury of his left knee, sustained during Week 12 against the Bills.

Notable players cut by the Seahawks on Saturday include: DE Pierre Allen, FB Dorson Boyce, WR Chris Carter, RB Thomas Clayton, DT Colin Cole, CB Kennard Cox, DL Maurice Fountain, DE David Howard, LB Michael Johnson, LB/DE Jameson Konz, FS Mark LeGree, WR Ricardo Lockette, LB Mike Morgan, S Josh Pinkard, DE A.J. Schable, WR Owen Spencer, RB Vai Taua and WR Patrick Williams.

The Palm Beach Post reports the Jets on Sunday have signed QB Kevin O'Connell, who was released by the Dolphins on cut-down day Saturday. O'Connell will be the No. 3 QB for the Jets behind Mark Sanchez and Mark Brunell.

Jets LB David Harris and DL Kenrick Ellis both suffered ankle sprains in Week 7 against San Diego, but are not expected to miss playing time. New York coach Rex Ryan said they are regular ankle sprains, not high ankle sprains, which means they should recover fairly quickly.

For the second time this season, Jets LB Bart Scott has back-to-back games with a sack, as he got to Eagles QB Vince Young in the fourth quarter of the Jets 45-19 loss in Week 15.

The Jets officially placed LB Bryan Thomas on season-ending injured reserve on Saturday. Thomas tore his left Achilles' tendon in the club's 34-17 loss at Baltimore last Sunday. The team singed LB Eddie Jones off the practice squad to take his place on the 53-man roster.

Jets QB Mark Brunell made an appearance in Week 15 versus the Eagles. He completed one pass for 27 yards after replacing starter Mark Sanchez, who got beat up all day. New York would lose to Philadelphia, 45-19.

The New York Daily News reports Saturday that Jets receiver Logan Payne, out with a wrist injury, will go on season-ending injured reserve. Payne was already ruled out for Week 7 against the Chargers. His season is now over.

Wrist - IR. Out for the season

The Newark Star-Ledger reports Friday that WR Mardy Gilyard, who was released by the Rams last Saturday during cut-down day, has been cut by the Jets. He signed with them on the next day.

The Jets signed DB Ellis Lankster to a one-year deal Tuesday. Lankster was with the team this preseason but was waived before the start of the regular season.

Jets LB Jamaal Westerman recorded a sack of Redskins QB Rex Grossman in the Week 13 win at Washington. Westerman registered five total tackles in the game to go with his sack. He had two tackles for a loss.

Plaxico Burress told Howard Eskin of 94 WIP SportsRadio in Philadelphia that he "wants to play for Eagles. Badly!" Eskin posted the news on his Twitter account, saying he spoke to him at the Super Bowl, and later posted that he thinks that the "Eagles will think about" signing him. Burress recently commented on his year with the Jets to the New York Post, failing to elaborate on any comments and seeming uninterested in staying with them.

The Jets filled out their eight-player practice squad on Tuesday, signing running back Chauncey Washington, a preseason standout; defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert, a former Bears third-round pick; and linebacker Cody Brown, a second-round pick of the Cardinals a year ago. To make room on the squad, New York released linebacker Ricky Foley and defensive back Donovan Warren.

Jets RB John Conner scored his first touchdown of the season on a 1-yard run during New York's 27-11 victory over Buffalo in Week 9. Conner reached the end zone in the fourth quarter on a misdirection for his second career touchdown. He finished with two carries for eight yards.

Jets LB Garrett McIntyre hurt his knee covering the opening kickoff Week 16 against the Giants, and there was no immediate word on the injury.

Knee - Missed Week 17 at Miami

Jets RB LaDainian Tomlinson paced the team on the ground with 56 rushing yards on 11 carries during New York's 19-17 loss to Miami in Week 17. Tomlinson, whose rushing output was also a season high, finished with 10-plus carries for the first time this year. Earlier this week, the 32-year-old hinted at retirement if he doesn't land a job with suitable a contender. He also said he would not sign for the league's minimum salary.

The Jets have placed backup defensive end Ropati Pitoitua on injured reserve, ending his season, with a torn left Achilles' tendon. Pitoitua, in his third season with the Jets, was injured during the first half of New York's 9-3 preseason victory at Carolina on Saturday night. The former Washington State star was expected to fill in at various spots on the defensive line.

New York DB Kyle Wilson intercepted a Rex Grossman pass during the Week 13 34-19 win at Washington Sunday. Wilson picked off Grossman late to help secure the win for the Jets. Wilson finished with three total tackles on the afternoon.

Jets RB Shonn Greene registered 14 attempts for 55 yards during New York's 19-17 loss to Miami in Week 17. Greene carried the ball at least 14 times for the fifth consecutive game, but posted a subpar 3.9 yards per attempt -- just the second occasion he did not top at least four yards during the second half of the season. The third-year back also failed to pace the team in rushing as LaDainian Tomlinson had 56 yards on 11 carries.

Jets DB Antonio Cromartie finished with four tackles and a pass defended during New York's 27-21 victory over San Diego in Week 7 on Sunday. Cromartie's total was his best since Week 3 against Oakland when he registered a season-high nine stops.

Jets coach Rex Ryan confirmed DB Jim Leonhard, who hurt his knee Week 14 against the Chiefs, has been placed on injured-reserve and will be out for the rest of the season. "Unfortunately we lost Jimmy Leonhard for the season," Ryan said Monday . "He has a torn patella tendon. It’s a huge blow to our team, but one we think we can overcome." Brodney Pool is expected to replace Leonhard in the starting lineup.

Knee - IR. Out for the season

The Jets re-signed CB Donald Strickland on Saturday, reports the Newark Star-Ledger. Strickland, who played for the Chargers in 2010, was a member of the Jets in 2009.

CB Marquice Cole and DE Marcus Dixon have been re-resigned. Both were exclusive rights free agents.

The New York Daily News reports Jets TE Jeff Cumberland is out for the season with a torn Achilles'. According to a source, his recovery timetable is six months. He's been placed on IR.

The Jets signed DB Gerald Alexander on Tuesday to take the roster spot of DB Jim Leonhard, who was placed in injured reserve, according to the New York Daily News. Jets coach Rex Ryan said the team was seeking a safety to "help us with some depth in the long term."

Jets DB Darrelle Revis recorded three tackles in Week 14 against the Chiefs. He also had a pass defended in the 37-10 win.

With the New York Jets trying to close out another too-close-for-comfort fourth-quarter comeback, coach Rex Ryan walked up to the player known as "Mayhem." "Fourth-quarter sacks win games," Ryan said. Linebacker Aaron Maybin then took his spot on the field and did one better. He not only sacked Rex Grossman, but also dislodged the ball from the Washington Redskins quarterback. The Jets recovered, setting up the first of two insurance touchdown runs by Shonn Greene that closed out Sunday's 34-19 win. "Fourth-quarter fumbles," Ryan said, "are even better. ... I think we need to get some jerseys out there with `Mayhem' on their back." Maybin finished the game with two tackles for the Jets.

Jets DL Muhammad Wilkerson totaled five tackles (three solo) and one sack Week 16 against the Giants. He now has a sack in two straight games and three on the season.

The Jets signed LB Shawn Crable to their practice squad on Friday. Crable was released by the Patriots on Tuesday.

Jets RB Bilal Powell saw the first action of the season in Week 11 against the Broncos. With LaDainian Tomlinson inactive and Shonn Greene going down with a rib injury early in the game, Powell found himself as the No. 2 running back. He finished with seven carries for 11 yards and caught one pass for 7 yards. He almost scored his first touchdown, but fumbled on the goal line. Offensive lineman Matt Slauson recovered the ball for a touchdown -- which was New York's lone touchdown. They would lose the game, 17-13.

The Jets signed WR Michael Campbell, DB Julian Posey and TE Martell Webb to the practice squad on Tuesday.

The Jets released WR Eron Riley on Thursday in order to clear a roster spot for LB Ricky Sapp. Riley cleared waivers and was added back to the team's practice squad.

The Jets signed nine players to reserve-future contracts Friday: safety Brannon Condren, wide receivers Britt Davis and Marcus Henry, fullback Jason Davis, offensive tackle Dan Gay, defensive tackles Matt Kroul and Ty Steinkuhler, center Michael Parenton and long snapper Tanner Purdum.

CB Marquice Cole and DE Marcus Dixon have been re-resigned. Both were exclusive rights free agents.

Citing NFLPA records, the Jets have signed WR Patrick Turner to a one-year deal according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Jets LB Calvin Pace was listed as probable for Sunday's game versus the Eagles. He's been dealing with a groin injury.

Jets TE Dustin Keller posted a game-high seven receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown during New York's 19-17 loss to Miami in Week 17. Keller hauled in every pass thrown in his direction from QB Mark Sanchez as he topped seven catches for the second straight outing. He connected with Sanchez on a 1-yard touchdown strike in the first quarter to give the Jets a 7-3 lead. It was his fifth touchdown catch of the season.

The New York Jets have signed linebacker Josh Mauga from the practice squad and waived defensive tackle Howard Green.

Jets LB David Harris left in the third quarter of Week 17 against Miami with a calf injury and is not expected to return, according to the team's official website. Harris finished with two tackles and a pass defended before departing.

Jets DL Sione Pouha registered a team-high seven tackles during New York's 27-11 victory over Buffalo in Week 9. Pouha surpassed his total from the previous three games combined (six) and now has 28 overall stops this season.

Jets WR Jeremy Kerley had four catches for a game-high 71 yards during New York's 19-17 loss at Miami in Week 17. Kerley was targeted six times by QB Mark Sanchez as he posted an impressive average of 17.8 yards per reception. It was his highest receiving output since Nov. 13 against New England (79 yards).

The New York Daily News reports that Jets owner Woody Johnson said Thursday he stands behind QB Mark Sanchez heading into 2012. Several key players and members of the organization questioned Sanchez’s leadership, his work habits on the practice field and the organization’s coddling of the quarterback. “You always try to take care of your quarterback,” Johnson said. “They probably coddle Tom Brady and all the other great quarterbacks in the league as well. Do we overprotect Mark? I don’t think we do. He’s the obviously a critical part of the team. So you spend more time with him. Is that coddling? I don’t know ... I have a lot of confidence in Mark Sanchez. “Despite some of the reports, he’s a very hard worker. He can do everything that you want a quarterback to do. When he has the confidence, which I think he’ll have this year ... he’s had a lot of success in his life. This is probably one of the first years where he’s experienced the New York way. My feeling is that Mark is the kind of guy that will learn from this. We’re going to try to make the offense maybe a little more suitable for what Mark’s development is.”

Jets TE Josh Baker recorded his first career touchdown Week 16 against the Giants in a 29-14 loss. "The loss kind of trumps the touchdown," said Baker, whose lone catch was the 5-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter.

Jets K Nick Folk converted his lone field-goal attempt and two extra points during New York's 19-17 loss to Miami in Week 17. Folk booted a 31-yard field goal during the second quarter to help give the Jets a 10-3 lead.

The Palm Beach Post reports Sunday that the Jets signed QB Kevin O'Connell because rookie QB Greg McElroy was placed on the injured reserve following thumb surgery Friday.
