The Eagles drafted Virginia Tech CB Victor 'Macho' Harris with a fifth-round pick in the 2009 draft. Harris doesn't have good size (5-foot-11, 197 pounds) but plays well in zone coverage and might end up with a decent role out of camp with the team as a nickel or dimeback.

The New England Patriots have traded veteran CB Ellis Hobbs to the Philadelphia Eagles for two draft picks. Hobbs, who started for the Patriots last season, will rejoin former teammate Assante Samuel in the Philadelphia secondary. New England receives a pair of fifth-round picks in Sunday's NFL draft, the 137th and 141st overall picks.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that it's been a while since the Eagles had a player like Leonard Weaver, a FB who can block, run, and catch the football. It's been so long that it raises the question: How will the team that thought so little of the position that it went into last season without a traditional fullback utilize Weaver? "Leonard is a true fullback who has other skills," Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. "He has good running skills as well as pass receiving skills. So, we'll try to put him in positions where he can get some success in those areas." By bringing in a top-notch fullback, the Eagles address their need for a lead blocker for RB Brian Westbrook and have someone who can carry some of Westbrook's load.

Eagles LB Stewart Bradley is probable for the Eagles' Divisional Playoff game against the Giants in New York with a rib injury. Bradley was able to practice in full on Thursday and Friday so he should be good to go.

On Saturday, the Jaguars let go of QB Todd Bouman, RB Ciatrick Fason, LB Tony Gilbert, DT Jesse Mahelona, DE Kenny Pettway, DE Bo Schobel, TE Chris Brown, DE Mkristo Bruce, TE Charles Davis, CB Isaiah Gardner, CB Michael Grant, WR Ryan Hoag, CB Rashod Moulton, LB Lamar Myles and WR D’Juan Woods.

Safety Sean Jones signed a one-year, free-agent contract with the Eagles on Friday, helping fill the void created by Brian Dawkins' departure. A second-round pick by Cleveland in 2004, Jones played five seasons with the Browns and was mostly used as a strong safety, but his playmaking skills make him a potential replacement for Dawkins at free safety. Jones may have to beat out second-year pro Quintin Demps for the spot. Jones ranks third among safeties behind Baltimore's Ed Reed and St. Louis' Oshiomogho Atogwe with 14 interceptions since 2006. He had four picks in Cleveland's final six games last season, a season in which he missed four games after having surgery on his right knee, but played the last 11.

The Eagles claimed DT Amon Gordon off waivers from the Titans, and also signed LB Charleston Hughes and S Byron Parker.

Disgruntled Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown didn't attend the voluntary team workout on Tuesday. Brown went public in April with his wish for a new contract or a trade after team president Joe Banner, in a radio interview, denied Brown had any dissatisfaction with his current deal, which runs through 2012. The team responded with a terse statement making it clear that Brown will not get a new deal, nor will any Eagles player with four years remaining on his contract. The Eagles also acquired veteran cornerback Ellis Hobbs from the New England Patriots for two fifth-round picks during the draft. Brown attended the mandatory post-draft minicamp last month, saying he was satisfied that his situation had been made public and he was determined not to allow it to become a distraction.

The Eagles have confirmed that RB Brian Westbrook will have surgery on Friday to remove bone spurs from his right ankle. As a result, Westbrook is expected to miss the start of training camp and could be a question mark heading into the regular season. Rookie RB LeSean McCoy has already been sharing first-team reps with third-year rusher Lorenzo Booker; both should see extensive playing time in the preseason.

Eagles LB Chris Clemons picked up a fumble Week 17 against the Cowboys and scurried 73 yards up the field for a touchdown. He finished the season with two sacks and one forced fumble. Clemons totaled four sacks for the season.

Eagles DE Trent Cole recorded eight tackles in Week 16's loss to the Redskins. Cole added one sack of Redskins QB Jason Campbell.

The Eagles signed safety Rashad Baker to a one-year contract Wednesday, adding another defensive back to a revamped secondary. He spent the last two seasons with Oakland. Baker is the second safety the Eagles have signed since losing seven-time Pro Bowl pick Brian Dawkins (Denver) and backup Sean Considine (Jacksonville) in free agency.

The Eagles placed DL Trevor Laws on their PUP list at the start of training camp, meaning that he won't practice with the team until he's healthy. The team can take him off the list at any point during the preseason but will lose him for at least six games if he's still on the list just before Week 1. "The foot, we'll just have to see how he does," Andy Reid said. "I would anticipate he would be out for a couple of days in this rookie camp here."

The Eagles re-signed linebacker Tank Daniels to a one-year contract Monday. Daniels had 18 special-teams tackles last season for the Eagles after being claimed off waivers from the New York Giants in August. He was an exclusive-rights free agent. The Eagles also claimed running back Eldra Buckley off waivers from San Diego. Buckley spent the last two seasons on the Chargers' practice squad.

The Eagles signed free agent tight end Eugene Bright on Thursday. Bright attended high school in suburban Philadelphia and played defensive end at Purdue before going undrafted last year.

The Eagles drafted Wash. State WR Brandon Gibson with a sixth-round pick in the 2009 draft. Gibson has decent size and can play well as a complementary piece of an offense but not as the playmaker.

According to a report, Eagles WR Reggie Brown said he's out to prove himself after a disappointing 2008 season. But Brown wants to make sure he's playing in a significant role this year. "I'm just gonna make the best out of what I have right now," Brown said during an TV interview, as reported on philly.com. "I don't think I'm gonna force the issue too much unless I have to. Unless things start to decline to me not playing at all when I know I should be and everyone know I should be. Then I might push the issue a little bit, but right now I’m just trying to focus on what I have to do to become a better receiver." Brown caught 18 passes for 252 yards and one touchdown last season, all career lows. "For me personally, it was a very disappointing year," Brown said.

Eagles LB Akeem Jordan had a team-high 11 tackles (10 solo) during a Week 17 win against the Cowboys. It was the first time all season he managed 10-plus tackles. Jordan has 61 tackles on the season.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Eagles are high on WR DeSean Jackson this year. "He has that mentality," Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. On May 2, during the minicamp, "he came up to me and said, 'I'm getting better every day.' If you have that mentality, then you don't put a cap on yourself." Jackson enters the coming season as the Eagles best WR. He led the team in receptions with 62, receiving yards with 912 and yards per catch with 14.7, and set franchise rookie records for wideouts in each category. "I still feel like I have to go out there and get my job done and still produce," Jackson said. "It's not about proving, it's about progressing and just getting better. I'm definitely looking to take my game to another level." Coach Andy Reid was impressed. "He's playing faster," Reid said. "He knows what he's doing. I'm comparing it to when he came to this camp the first time. It was all new to him, so he wasn't moving quite as confidently or as fast as he is now."

According to the team web site, Eagles rookie TE Cornelius Ingram spoke after practice Thursday regarding the knee contusion that he suffered at Wednesday's practice. The knee that was injured Wednesday was the same one that was operated on following an ACL injury that cost Ingram the 2008 season. Ingram said that he is OK after treatment, and he could return to the practice field as soon as Friday.

Philadelphia had two players see action in Week 16's game against the Redskins, a 10-3 loss, but go without stats. Those players are RB Kyle Eckel and TE Matt Schobel. Backup QB Kevin Kolb did not play but was active behind Donovan McNabb.

The Eagles agreed to terms on a four-year deal with second-round draft choice LeSean McCoy on Monday. The running back from Pittsburgh, taken by Philadelphia with the 53rd overall selection, is the first second-round pick to sign, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. McCoy, who provides insurance behind the dynamic but injury prone Brian Westbrook, rushed for 2,816 yards and 35 TDs, and caught 65 passes for 549 yards and one score in two seasons at Pitt. He ran for 1,488 yards and 21 TDs last year. He's in the process of overcoming a sprained thumb suffered this spring and expects to be ready for the start of training camp.

Thumb - Probable for start of training camp

Philadelphia had two players see action in Week 16's game against the Redskins, a 10-3 loss, but go without stats. Those players are RB Kyle Eckel and TE Matt Schobel. Backup QB Kevin Kolb did not play but was active behind Donovan McNabb.

Eagles DL Brodrick Bunkley had one of the team's nine sacks during a Week 3 win against the Steelers. He also had one fumble recovery.

The Eagles are down to 53 men on their roster and among the biggest names cut Saturday was 2003 first-round draft pick DL Jerome McDougle. The Eagles’ other cuts were: CB Kyle Arrington, FB Jed Collins, FB Jason Davis, WR Michael Gasperson, DT Mike Marquardt, WR Shaheer McBride, DT Montae Reagor, LB Justin Roland, LB Andy Studebaker and TE Kris Wilson.

At the NFL Rookie Symposium in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Eagles rookie WR Jeremy Maclin told CBSSports.com in an exclusive interview that he's enjoying playing with QB Donovan McNabb. "It's fun, that's for sure," Maclin said "You're playing with one of the best quarterbacks of all time. He's a future Hall of Famer. He puts the ball on the money 100 percent of the time."

Eagles DB Asante Samuel should be good to go against the Giants in their Divisional Playoff game on Sunday. Samuel set an NFL record for interceptions with four when he returned for a touchdown last week with a 44-yard pick-six.

Eagles DL Victor Abiamiri is out for the Eagles' playoff game at Minnesota with a foot injury.

The Eagles and rookie LB Moses Fokou have agreed to a four-year deal. Fokou was a seventh-round pick by the Eagles back in April's draft.

The Courier Post reports Eagles WR Hank Baskett will use his 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame to make an impact this season as a red-zone target for QB Donovan McNabb. The report says "Baskett has always been regarded as the best red zone threat the Eagles have had since T.O. was in town. While Baskett has not quite lived up to that billing, his size and big body is always a threat to score."

The Eagles placed cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu on the reserve/non-football injury list Tuesday. Ikegwuonu, a fourth-round draft pick out of Wisconsin, is rehabilitating a knee injury he sustained while preparing for the NFL combine. He will be eligible to return to practice with the team between the sixth and ninth weeks of the season.

The Eagles re-signed linebacker Tank Daniels to a one-year contract Monday. According to the team web site, Eagles RB Brian Westbrook had two bone fragments removed from his right ankle in a successful surgery Friday in Baltimore. "Brian's doing well," said head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder. The trainer would not put a specific timeframe on Westbrook's recovery. He said Westbrook will be on a non-weight bearing cast for two weeks and then take it week by week from there. Westbrook will then work one on one with Burkholder on his rehab. "I am not concerned about this injury," Burkholder said. "We feel pretty comfortable that he will be ready for the start of the regular season. I think he's going to come back in better shape. I think he's going to come back in the best shape of his life."

Ankle - Questionable for start of training camp

Eagles K David Akers had a less than spectacular performance in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, missing an extra point and a field goal. The missed extra point could have been costly as it came in the middle of an Eagles comeback and would have put the Steelers down four instead of five.

Eagles DL Juqua Parker (knee) is listed as probable for Week 10 vs. N.Y. Giants. He went through full practice reps all week. Parker has yet to miss a game in 2008, recording 4 1/2 sacks in eight games.

The Courier Post reports Eagles WR Kevin Curtis should bounce back this year after a disappointing 2008. Curtis had a big year with the Eagles in 2007 (77 receptions, 1,110 yards, 6 TDs). Last year, however, he was battling injuries and the explosion of rookie WR DeSean Jackson. But the report says "Curtis finally hit the field again this offseason after dealing with a hernia, and he has done very well so he should take his place atop the depth chart this season."

According to the team web site, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is impressed with TE Brent Celek. Mornhinweg said Celek will take on more responsibility this year. "I don't think there is any question that he is ready for the role. He has proven that," said Mornhinweg. "He has developed very well. ... Every time we gave Brent a little bit more last year, he succeeded. We would give him a little bit more and he would succeed. A little bit more, a little bit more. That's the way it went all season. Brent is a player who is a consistent performer. I think it is important to know what Brent's strengths are and you work him there. He produces. He is consistent. He is dependable. You call his number and he's going to get it done. You call a run to his side and he's going to get it (block) done. You call a run away from him and he is going to get the cutoff block. He is just so consistent and dependable, and there is a trust factor that goes into it. Coaches and the rest of the players naturally trust the man to get the job done, and that is so very important."

Eagles DL Darren Howard totaled three tackles, one pass defense and one sack during a Week 17 win against the Cowboys. He has a sack in each of his last two games and 10 on the season.

The Green Bay Packers said Tuesday they've released linebacker Tracy White and signed rookie linebacker Danny Lansanah from the practice squad. White, a sixth-year player, appeared in 32 regular-season games and two playoff games for Green Bay. Lansanah signed with the Packers as a non-drafted free agent from Connecticut.

The Chiefs listed QB Tyler Thigpen (third QB), DB Dmitri Patterson (coach's decision), WR Bobby Sippio (coach's decision), Eddie Kennison (hamstring), DL James Reed (coach's decision) and LB Keyaron Fox (hamstring) as inactive for Week 7 at Oakland.

Eagles DB Quintin Demps returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter Week 12 against the Ravens. He also recorded a solo tackle.

Bills TE Jason Peters had two receptions in 2005 for five yards and a touchdown.

The Courier Post reports Eagles WR Jason Avant is relying on his special teams' prowess to make the final roster this year. Avant has been a great special teamer and has made strides each season until his best year last year where he had 13 of 15 of his catches last year went for first downs. The report says "Avant is sure-handed, and QB Donovan McNabb has confidence in him." It also adds "he will almost definitely make the team."

Eagles DB Quintin Mikell extended his career high to three interceptions Week 13 against the Cardinals. He also finished with a team-high seven tackles, including six solo.

The Courier Post reports Eagles WR Danny Amendola will struggle to make the team this year. Amendola was on the practice squad for the playoffs (signed in Jan. 2009) and was on Dallas' practice squad as an undrafted free agent in 2008. The report says "a roster spot for the regular season is a long shot."

Eagles RB Dan Klecko caught one pass for two yards in Week 16 against the Redskins.

Tight end Matt Schobel and long snapper Jon Dorenbos were the only two Eagles offensive players not to record an offensive statistic in Week 1 against St. Louis.

Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to restructure the final two years of his contract. McNabb's new deal is worth $24.5 million over the next two seasons, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. A "significant" portion of McNabb's base salary for 2010 also is guaranteed, according to the source. McNabb asked for a new contract earlier this offseason after leading the Eagles on an improbable run to the NFC Championship Game, and even said he'd consider asking for a trade if the Eagles didn't improve their offense. The club bulked up its offensive line and added talented young receivers in the draft, likely appeasing their passer. "The Philadelphia Eagles organization and the entire city of Philadelphia are fortunate to have a quarterback the caliber of Donovan McNabb," Reid said in a statement. "He has proven himself to be a talented player on the field, a caring member of the Philadelphia community, and a winner."

With Brian Westbrook (ankle) out until at least training camp and LeSean McCoy and Lorenzo Booker moving up the depth chart as potential replacements, the door is open for other backup RBs in Philadelphia to step up and get an extended look during OTA workouts. According to the team web site, Kyle Eckel and rookie Walter Mendenhall are in a position to get some meaningful repetitions throughout the summer.
