Several members of San Diego's defense played well Sunday against Denver. DB Eric Weddle had 11 tackles, DB Quentin Jammer had two tackles, DB Antonio Cromartie had four tackles, LB Shaun Phillips had three tackles, LB Stephen Cooper had six tackles, DB Paul Oliver had two tackles and an interception and DL Luis Castillo had one tackle and an interception.

The Chargers signed WR Gary Banks, LB Darry Beckwith, CB Simeon Castille, DE Andre Coleman, LB James Holt and FB Billy Latsko to their practice squad on Sunday.

Chargers TE Antonio Gates totaled five catches for 67 yards during a Week 9 win against the Giants. His longest reception went 29 yards and he was targeted a team-high eight times. Unfortunately, he failed to score for a fourth straight game.

The Chargers' list of inactives for Week 8 against the Raiders includes QB Charlie Whitehurst, LB Kevin Burnett, DB Dante Hughes, DB C.J. Spillman, DL Vaughn Martin and WR Craig Davis.

Chargers DB Kevin Ellison led the team with seven tackles on Monday night in a loss to Denver.

Chargers DL Ryon Bingham was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a triceps tear.

Triceps - IR. Out for the season

The Chargers signed WR Gary Banks, LB Darry Beckwith, CB Simeon Castille, DE Andre Coleman, LB James Holt and FB Billy Latsko to their practice squad on Sunday.

The Chargers have re-signed veteran defensive tackle Ian Scott, releasing safety Clinton Hart to make room for him. Scott was the backup to nose tackle Jamal Williams, who suffered a season-ending elbow injury. The Bolts cut Scott before the season.

San Diego LB Brandon Siler was active for Saturday's preseason game against the Falcons, making a tackle. He was questionable for the game with a foot injury.

Chargers LB Shawne Merriman capped the team's 21-20 comeback win in Week 9 against the Giants as he sacked QB Eli Manning on the last play of the game. Merriman finished with three tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery.

Chargers TE Brandon Manumaleuna, RB Michael Bennett, WR Kassim Osgood and QB Billy Volek all dressed, but failed to record an offense stat in Week 9 against the Giants.

The Chargers' list of inactives for Week 8 against the Raiders includes QB Charlie Whitehurst, LB Kevin Burnett, DB Dante Hughes, DB C.J. Spillman, DL Vaughn Martin and WR Craig Davis.

Chargers WR Malcom Floyd hauled in two receptions for 29 yards during a Week 9 win against the Giants. His longest catch went for 17 yards and Floyd was targeted seven times. He has two catches in three straight games.

Chargers DL Luis Castillo had two tackles and one sack during a Week 2 loss to the Ravens. He now has 15 1/2 sacks in 53 career games.

Chargers WR Legedu Naanee totaled three catches for 20 yards during a Week 9 win against the Giants. His longest catch went for 9 yards and he was targeted just three times in the game. Naanee had all of one catch in his previous three games.

Chargers DB Steve Gregory was in on four tackles in Week 7 at Kansas City, including his first sack of the season. He also intercepted his first pass of the season and deflected two passes.

Chargers rookie Larry English picked up his second sack on Monday night in a loss to Denver in Week 6. English added four tackles.

Chargers DB Antoine Cason totaled one tackle and one interception during a Week 2 loss to the Ravens. Cason got his second interception of the season as he picked off a Joe Flacco pass in the fourth quarter.

The San Diego Chargers placed defensive tackle Jamal Williams on Reserve-Injured with a tricep injury. Williams will miss the remainder of the ’09 season. To fill Williams’ place on the active roster, the team signed defensive end Andre Coleman from its practice squad.

Elbow - IR. Out for the season

The San Diego Chargers have signed defensive tackle Alfonso Boone to help fill the void left when Jamal Williams was lost for the season with a triceps injury. Boone spent the last two seasons with the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs. He was released in the final roster cutdown. The Chargers released defensive end Andre Coleman to make room on the roster.

The San Diego Chargers have signed rookie linebacker James Holt from the practice squad to fill the roster spot created when wide receiver Chris Chambers was released. Holt originally joined the Chargers in May as a free agent. He was released at the conclusion of training camp and added to the practice squad. The Chargers need a linebacker because Tim Dobbins is expected to be out for two weeks after sustaining a knee injury in Sunday's 24-16 win over Oakland. The Chargers signed linebacker Jeremy Leman to the practice squad.

The Chargers released five players on Tuesday to get their roster down to 75 players, notes the team's official website. Quarterback Casey Bramlet, WR Billy Pittman, TE John Tereshinski and WR Marco Thomas.

Ankle - Missed Week 9 at N.Y. Giants

Chargers LB Shaun Phillips totaled eight tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles during a Week 9 win against the Giants. Phillips has five sacks on the season, all coming in the last three games.

Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson totaled 12 carries for 22 yards during a Week 9 win against the Giants. His longest carry went for 5 yards. Tomlinson also had two catches for eight yards but managed no touchdowns.

Chargers safety Eric Weddle intercepted Miami backup quarterback Chad Henne and returned it 31 yards for a score with just less than six minutes to play to cap a 23-13 win in Week 3. Weddle also finished with seven tackles (six solo).

Philip Rivers capped an 80-yard drive with an 18-yard pass to Vincent Jackson with 21 seconds to play and the San Diego Chargers stunned the Giants 21-20 in Week 9, handing New York its fourth straight loss. Rivers was 24 of 36 for 209 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Jackson, in helping San Diego (5-3) win its third straight game. Rivers also found Jackson on a 10-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. He hit Kris Wilson on a 2-yarder in the third to give San Diego a 14-7 lead in a game in which the Giants defense rebounded from a miserable efforts the previous three weeks. But they couldn't put the Chargers away when they had the chance. Terrell Thomas intercepted Rivers' pass late in the fourth quarter and returned it 33 yards to the San Diego 4. A holding penalty on first down pushed New York back 10 yards, and it had to settle for a short field goal and a 6-point lead.

Chargers DB Antonio Cromartie recorded an interception Week 8 against the Raiders. It was the first pickoff in 20 games for Cromartie, who had 10 in 2007 but dropped off to two last season.

Knee - Missed Week 9 at N.Y. Giants

Philip Rivers capped an 80-yard drive with an 18-yard pass to Vincent Jackson with 21 seconds to play and the San Diego Chargers stunned the Giants 21-20 in Week 9, handing New York its fourth straight loss. With just over two minutes to play and one timeout, Rivers marched the Chargers down the field. He hit Malcolm Floyd on a 12-yard completion, made two throws to Antonio Gates for 10 yards and had a 21-yarder to Darren Sproles that put the ball at the 18. On the next play, Rivers found Jackson in the right corner of the end zone for the game-winner. Rivers also found Jackson on a 10-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Jackson finished with five catches for 58 yards. He was targeted six times.

Chargers RB Jacob Hester totaled one catch for 3 yards during a Week 9 win against the Giants. He did not have a carry. Hester has two catches for 8 yards in eight games.

The Chargers have reached the 75-man roster limit by placing cornerback Brandon Hughes on injured reserve and wide receiver Demetrius Byrd on the reserve/NFI list and by waiving LB Anthony Felder.

San Diego has listed the following players as inactive for Sunday night of Week 4 against the Steelers: DL Antwan Applewhite, DB Kevin Ellison, DB C.J. Spillman, WR Craig Davis, DL Travis Johnson and 3rd QB Charlie Whitehurst.

Chargers K Nate Kaeding converted all three of his extra points in a Week 9 win against the Giants. Kaeding, unfortunately, did not get any chances to kick a field goal. The three points were a season low.

The Chargers placed LB Antwan Applewhite on the IR on Tuesday and signed former Colts CB Dante Hughes to take his place on the active roster. Applewhite, a second-year pro, suffered a hamstring injury in the Chargers' season opener at Oakland and hasn't played since. He returned to practice last week and re-aggravated the injury. He is expected to undergo surgery.

A San Diego Chargers running back from Philadelphia was hospitalized after being shot in his car at a suburban intersection. A hospital spokesman said 23-year-old Curtis Brinkley is in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Albert Einstein Medical Center. An uncle, Gregory Brinkley, told WPVI-TV that he was able to talk with relatives on the phone.

Chargers RB Mike Tolbert had two carries for six yards Week 8 against the Raiders. He entered the game with just one carry all season.

The Chargers have had numerous players miss practice as they continue preparations for Sunday's game at Kansas City. Running backs LaDainian Tomlinson and Jacob Hester, wide receiver Buster Davis and linebacker Jyles Tucker were unable to practice Thursday. Coach Norv Turner said, "We have a little bit of the flu going around."

Chargers DL Alfonso Boone's lone tackle in Week 9 against the Giants happened to be a sack of QB Eli Manning. It was his second sack of the season.
