Rams long snapper Chris Massey will miss the rest of the season after tearing a left knee ligament in the second quarter of a Week 7 loss to the Colts.

Josh Brown's first NFL pass was not a thing of beauty but he doesn't care about style points. The St. Louis Rams' kicker was named the NFC's special teams player of the week Wednesday after a game that saw him kick a 41-yard field goal but also throw a 36-yard touchdown pass to tight end Daniel Fells. Well, throw might be overstating it a bit. It was more of a flip on a fake field goal attempt that helped the Rams end a 17-game losing streak with a 17-10 victory over Detroit. Brown, who was a running back playing eight-man football at Foyil (Okla.) High School, said he considered trying to run for a first down. Instead, he sort of shot-putted the ball to Fells, who broke one tackle en route to the end zone. "I didn't really even use my shoulder on that throw," Brown said. "I wasn't trying to make it pretty, just effective."

On Tuesday, RB Darius Walker and LB Kelly Poppinga were signed to the Rams' practice squad and S David Roach and FB Russ Weil were released from the Rams' practice squad.

The Rams signed LB K.C. Asiodu, TE Eric Butler, DE Ian Campbell, LB Dominic Douglas, CB Cord Parks and WR Sean Walker to the practice squad on Sunday.

The St. Louis Rams announced a practice squad of seven players Monday. There is room for one additional player on the practice squad. The list includes QB Brock Berlin, DT Keith Jackson, WR Derek Stanley, WR Dominique Thompson, CB Darius Vinnett and RB John David Washington.

Rams linebacker David Vobora took the majority of snaps with the first string Wednesday in his first practice since a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The second-year player says he did nothing wrong and intends to file a lawsuit over the matter. Vobora said he was informed of the pending suspension in July and dropped his appeal of the decision. Vobora accepted the suspension after sustaining a concussion against the Packers, which would have sidelined him for a week anyway. During the suspension, Vobora said he worked out three times a day and watched the winless Rams' games on television. The Rams play at Detroit on Sunday.

St. Louis DL Chris Long was able to sack Matthew Stafford in the team's Week 8 game against the Lions. He also had four solo tackles in the game, increasing his total to 27 on the year.

To get down to the league-mandated 53-man roster, the Rams have parted with the following players: LB K.C. Asiodu, QB Brock Berlin, DT Antwon Burton, TE Eric Butler, DE Ian Campbell, WR Tim Carter, WR Ronald Curry, LB Dominic Douglas, FB Jerome Johnson, S Todd Johnson, RB Chris Ogbonnaya, CB Cord Parks, RB Antonio Pittman, S Mark Rubin and WR Sean Walker.

The Rams have signed cornerback Danny Gorrer and waived wide receiver Tim Carter. Gorrer is a rookie who was on the practice squad for the Saints, who signed him as an undrafted free agent May 4. He was a two-year starter at Texas A&M where he had 141 tackles, two sacks, one interception, 13 passes defended and two forced fumbles. Carter had one catch for six yards in his two games with the Rams.

St. Louis WR Keenan Burton was the Rams' leading receiver in a Week 8 win over the Lions. Burton caught five passes in the game for a total of 54 yards. His longest reception of the day went for 22 yards.

St. Louis TE Daniel Fells scored the lone recieiving touchdown for the Rams in Week 8 on a fake field goal. He caught the pass from Josh Brown, the Rams' kicker. It went for 36 yards.

The St. Louis Rams were busy Monday when they tweaked their roster, nearly filled the practice squad and elected their five captains. Two days after cutting 13 more players to get down to the final 53-man roster, the Rams made more changes. Monday morning, the team signed cornerback Ricky Manning Jr. to a one-year contract and released defensive back Eric Bassey.

CB Ronald Bartell led the way with six solo tackles, SS Corey Chavous had five tackles, LB Will Witherspoon totaled six hits, DE Leonard Little had four solo tackles, CB O.J. Rams TE Randy McMichael has sore ribs, but X-ray tests came back clean Monday. The Rams have their bye this week, so McMichael is expected to be ready for the next game in Week 10 vs. New Orleans.

The Giants' list of inactives for Week 1 against the Redskins includes DB Aaron Ross, WR Ramses Barden, DB Kevin Dockery, DL Leger Douzable and LB Clint Sintim.

Rams DT Gary Gibson has a broken bone in his foot or ankle, an injury that will require surgery and end his season, coach Steve Spagnuolo said after Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Gibson became a starter in Week 1 when DT Adam Carriker was lost for the season with a shoulder injury.

Rams rookie cornerback Bradley Fletcher will miss the rest of the season with two torn ligaments in his right knee. Fletcher, a third-round pick, started for the third straight game and was injured in the second half of Sunday's 42-6 loss to the Colts. He'll require two operations and coach Steve Spagnuolo said Monday he might not be ready for the start of next season.

Knee - IR. Out for the season

On Friday, the Rams waived WR Matt Caddell, S Jerome Carter, TE Nick Cleaver, CB Tanard Davis, CB Cortney Grixby, WR Marques Hagans, LB Marcus Riley, DT Henry Smith and DT Willie Williams.

Rams CB Jonathan Wade continues to get more time working with the Rams first team, alternating with Tye Hill. Since being drafted No. 15 overall in 2006, Hill hasn't lived up to his first-round status. Wade was a third-round pick in 2007. Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo on Wade's increased playing time with the first team: "Some of that is, if the guys work with the same people all the time, you don't find out what's going to happen when they do move up."

The 49ers released a number of players to get down to the 53-man roster maximum on Saturday. San Francisco said goodbye to WR Dobson Collins, DE Pannel Egboh, TE Joe Jon Finley, CB Eric Green, CB Terrail Lambert, FB Brit Miller, DT Khalif Mitchell, LB Jay Moore, TE Bear Pascoe, WR Maurice Price, FB Bill Rentmeester, LB Justin Roland, RB Kory Sheets and LB Mark Washington.

The Rams listed QB Brock Berlin, DB Quincy Butler, DB David Roach and DL Claude Wroten among their inactives for Week 16 against the 49ers.

Rams LB Larry Grant totaled two tackles and one sack during a Week 4 loss to the 49ers. Rams DE Chris Long bull rushed 49ers LT Joe Staley, considered San Francisco's best offensive lineman. He pushed him so far back that QB Shaun Hill had to step up into the collapsing pocket. And he stepped right into the arms of Grant, who cleaned up for the sack.

After suffering a shoulder injury against the Chiefs in his preseason debut, and the team's preseason finale, DT Adam Carriker was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

St. Louis DL Leonard Little recorded a sack in the team's Week 8 win over the Lions. It was his firth sack of the season. He added three tackles in the game as well.

St. Louis WR Donnie Avery had only one catch in the team's Week 8 game against the Lions. The catch went for 15 yards. He was targeted six times in the game.

Steven Jackson's 25-yard touchdown run with 1:38 left lifted the Rams to a 17-10 win over the Lions, snapping their 17-game losing streak. The Rams (1-7) avoided matching their worst start in franchise history. They also ended talk about joining Detroit (1-6) as the only teams in NFL history to have an 0-16 season. Jackson had another solid performance. He ran for a season-high 149 yards on 22 carries and his go-ahead TD was St. Louis' first rushing score of the season.

Marc Bulger has thrown just three touchdown passes and has a passer rating of 68.2 for the scuffling St. Louis Rams. Don't expect coach Steve Spagnuolo to change quarterbacks. He has been generally pleased with the 32-year-old Bulger. "I think Marc has done everything we needed him to do," Spagnuolo said. "I've said this before; it's not one position on the side of the ball, it's everybody. He has been a leader, he manages the game, gets the ball to 39 (running back Steven Jackson), and there are pieces that he is working through, too." The Rams (1-7) have a bye in Week 9 before hosting undefeated New Orleans (7-0) on Nov. 15. The win against the Lions last weekend snapped a 17-game losing streak.

The Rams cut their 2006 second-round pick, tight end Joe Klopfenstein, on Tuesday. In three seasons, Klopfenstein had 33 catches for 386 yards and two touchdowns. Also released were undrafted rookies cornerback Marcus Brown and wide receiver Jarrett Byers. The Rams also put WR Brooks Foster on injured reserve.

Rams WR Danny Amendola sustained a concussion Sunday against Detroit and will have neurological testing done Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury. The Rams have a bye in Week 9 and return against New Orleans in Week 10. He caught one pass for 13 yards.

The Rams have signed long snapper Ryan Neill to replace Chris Massey, lost for the season with a knee injury in Sunday's 41-7 loss to the Colts. Neill, who played for the Bills in 2007-08, prevailed in a four-player tryout Tuesday. He was cut in training camp and got the thumbs up from St. Louis punter Donnie Jones and kicker Josh Brown. "When you're with somebody for 2 1/2 years and all of a sudden you've got to switch, of course it's going to be different," Jones said. "But things happen and you've got to adjust."

The St. Louis Rams have placed wide receiver Laurent Robinson on injured reserve. Robinson, who leads the Rams with 13 receptions with one touchdown as their emerging go-to receiver, has a right ankle sprain and a fractured leg. He will not play again this season.

Ankle, Leg - IR. Out for the season

The St. Louis Rams have signed wide receiver Ruvell Martin and linebacker Paris Lenon. Martin played three seasons for Green Bay before being waived Sept. 5. He had 52 receptions for 749 yards and six touchdowns for the Packers in those three years. Lenon is an eight-year veteran who played four seasons in Green Bay and three in Detroit before signing with New England in the offseason. He also was cut on Sept. 5. He has 523 career tackles, five sacks and two interceptions, along with 58 special teams tackles.
