Kareem Moore News Washington lists the following players as inactive for Week 2 against the Saints: DB Reed Doughty, DB Kareem Moore, LB Marcus Washington, LB Khary Campbell and DL Rob Jackson. Todd Yoder News Washington RB Mike Sellers saw game action in Week 16's win over the Eagles but was used only as a blocker and did not pick up any stats. Tight end Todd Yoder and backup QB Todd Collins were also active for the game but either did not get on the field or record any stats. Hunter Smith No Updates Malcolm Kelly News The Washington Post reports Redskins offensive coordinator Sherman Smith has been impressed with WR Malcolm Kelly this offseason. "Just seeing Malcolm running around, boy that's better," Smith said. Injury Knee - Probable for start of training camp Marques Hagans News The Colts signed tight end Jamie Petrowski off Tennessee's practice squad and promoted defensive back Brandon Foster from their own practice squad. They also placed defensive backs A.J. Davis and Brannon Condren and receiver Marques Hagans on the practice squad. Condren played eight games with the Colts last season, but was cut Aug. 30. To make room for the newcomers, the team released tight end Eric Butler and quarterback David Greene from the practice squad. Rueben Riley No Updates Chad Rinehart No Updates Robert Henson News TCU LB Robert Henson was taken by the Redskins in the 2009 draft. Henson, an outside linebacker, was a career tackling machine for the Horned Frogs. Chad Rinehart No Updates Mike Sellers News Washington RB Mike Sellers saw game action in Week 16's win over the Eagles but was used only as a blocker and did not pick up any stats. Tight end Todd Yoder and backup QB Todd Collins were also active for the game but either did not get on the field or record any stats. Anthony Alridge News The Washington Post reports the Redskins could be ready to count on RB Anthony Alridge this season as a change-of-pace back behind Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts. The report says "Alridge has blazing speed -- he clocked a 4.36 40-yard dash at the 2008 Scouting Combine -- and came recommended by former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan." C.J. Brooks No Updates Keith Eloi No Updates London Fletcher News Washington LB London Fletcher recorded nine tackles to lead the Redskins in Week 17's loss to the 49ers. Marko Mitchell News Nevada WR Marko Mitchell was taken by the Redskins in the 2009 draft. The club fell in love with Mitchell's immense size (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) and hope that after a productive college career he can push last year's second-round picks, Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, for some playing time. Mitchell caught 114 passes for 2,270 yards and 18 touchdowns during his two full years as a college starter. Trent Shelton News Seattle made its final cuts on Saturday in order to get its roster down to the requisite 53 players it is allowed. Among those cut were: DB Jamar Adams, QB Dalton Bell, DT Kevin Brown, WR Michael Bumpus, DB Marquis Floyd, DB Kelin Johnson, FB David Kirtman, TE Joe Newton, LB Dallas Sartz, WR Trent Shelton and DE Nu'u Tafisi. Kevin Barnes News Maryland CB Kevin Barnes was taken by the Redskins in the 2009 draft, keeping him close to home. Barnes only started 21 games during four years for the Terps, but he showed enough to become a third-round pick. Barnes has the size to cover big receivers and good enough speed (4.45) to cover the smaller wideouts. He also has a good track record of being a bruising hitter, making at least one receiver vomit after a hit last year. Lendy Holmes No Updates Mike Williams No Updates DeAngelo Hall News The Redskins snared CB DeAngelo Hall off the free-agent market before the start of the NFL's new season, signing him to a a six-year, $54 million agreement. Hall's five interceptions for the season - three with Oakland, two with Washington - were three more than any other cornerback on the Redskins roster. He was a model citizen during his short time in the nation's capital, avoiding the type of temperamental outbursts that prompted the Atlanta Falcons to trade him to Oakland in 2008. Hall therefore became a top offseason priority. Rob Jackson News The following Redskins players are inactive for Week 17's game at San Francisco: DL Ryan Boschetti, QB Colt Brennan (3rd QB), DL Rob Jackson, WR Malcolm Kelly and LB Tyson Smith. Antonio Dixon No Updates Justin Tryon News The Redskins list the following players as being inactive for Week 4 at Dallas: QB Colt Brennan (3rd QB), WR Malcolm Kelly, DB Justin Tryon, DB Justin Hamilton, DL Jason Taylor and DL Erasmus James. Chris Samuels No Updates Devin Thomas News According to the team web site, Redskins WR Devin Thomas is working on running better routes. "In the NFL, it's not always about speed, it's about how you use your speed," Thomas said. "A lot of times I get caught up with running fast, but you have to balance your speed with how you run your routes." As a rookie, Thomas caught 15 passes for 120 yards. Thomas says he is determined to improve this offseason. Thomas has also developed a better rapport with that Campbell. "Devin is getting a better understanding of the game," Campbell said. "The more he can understand, the more he can help us. He's an explosive guy. He's a big play guy. The thing we want to do is continue to encourage him." Injury Hamstring - Probable for start of training camp Brian Orakpo News The Washington Redskins selected defensive end Brian Orakpo of Texas with the 13th pick in the NFL draft, another move to bolster their weak pass rush. The Redskins entered the offseason knowing they needed to upgrade their defensive front: They ranked last in the NFC in 2008 with only 24 sacks. So Washington began free agency by landing All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and now have Orakpo, a 6-foot-3, 263-pound rusher. He delivered 40 tackles (32 solo) with 17.5 stops for losses and 15 pressures in 12 games for the Longhorns last season. "We have him slated as a defensive end. He will eventually, if we fire zone or something like that, he will be in the secondary at some point, but right now he is coming in what we think is a pretty good pass rusher," head coach Jim Zorn said. Will Montgomery No Updates Chris Horton News Redskins DB Chris Horton (shoulder) is listed as probable for Week 16 vs. Philadelphia. He missed his second game of the season Week 15 against Cincinnati, but is expected to start Sunday. Doug Dutch No Updates Carlos Rogers News Washington CB Carlos Rogers led a dinged up Redskins secondary and defense on Sunday to its biggest win of the season over the Cowboys in Dallas. Rogers led the team with seven tackles and defended numerous Tony Romo passes. Darrel Young No Updates Cody Glenn News Nebraska LB Cody Glenn was taken by the Redskins in the 2009 draft. But Glenn wasn't always a linebacker -- he switched from running back after his junior year because he didn't play much. As a linebacker, Glenn had 51 tackles without starting a game, then was suspended for unknown reasons (he lied to reporters at the time, telling them he sold game tickets). Brandon Archer News Linebackers Gary Brackett (groin) and Clint Session (calf) missed the preseason opener against Washington, and coach Tony Dungy said Wednesday they likely will miss Saturdays game against Carolina. Linebackers Brandon Archer and Victor Worsley are also out. Ethan Albright News Pro Bowl long snapper Ethan Albright re-signed with the Washington Redskins on Tuesday. Albright hasn't had a bad snap since joining the Redskins in 2001. He was one of three Washington representatives at this month's Pro Bowl, his first All-Star selection in his 12-year NFL career. Albright was signed as an undrafted free agent by Miami in 1994. He made his NFL debut with the Dolphins in 1995 and later played with Buffalo before joining the Redskins. Shaun Suisham News The Redskins have re-signed kicker Shaun Suisham. He went 26-for-36 (72 percent) on field-goal tries, the worst rate among NFL kickers with more than 10 attempts. For his career, Suisham is 67-for-86 (77.9 percent) on field goals. He has made 76 of 77 extra-point attempts. Last month, the Redskins signed Dave Rayner as possible competition for Suisham in training camp. Chris Cooley News The Washington Post reports Redskins offensive coordinator Sherman Smith said TE Chris Cooley has made an impression on him this offseason. "Chris Cooley, I mean, he's Chris Cooley," Smith said. "He's a football player. There's a difference between a guy who plays football and a football player. He's a football player. I love him." Devin Clark No Updates Phillip Daniels News Phillip Daniels signed a one-year contract to return to the Washington Redskins on Thursday. The 36-year-old DE missed the 2008 season when he tore a ligament in his left knee on the first day of training camp, prompting the Redskins to trade for Jason Taylor. The Redskins released Taylor at the end of the season and have since signed Renaldo Wynn. Daniels and Wynn are expected to split time opposite starter Andre Carter unless the team chooses a DE in the draft later this month. Daniels said he heard from other teams, but all the offers were similar to the bare-bones deal he received with the Redskins. He said he had discussions with his family before deciding to continue playing, and that he understood why he wasn't getting a big contract this time. Stephon Heyer No Updates Jeremy Bridges No Updates Robert Thomas News Veteran linebacker Robert Thomas has signed with the Redskins. Thomas has spent seven season in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders. He played only two games with the Raiders last year before a hamstring injury forced him onto injured reserve. The 29-year-old Thomas was a first-round draft pick by the Rams in 2002. He has started 50 of 84 career games, but has only 11 starts over the last three seasons. Renaldo Wynn News Several Giants defenders made an impact Sunday at Dallas. DB Kenny Phillips had one tackle, DB Aaron Ross had three tackles, DL Jay Alford had two tackles and a sack, DL Renaldo Wynn had one tackle and a sack and DB Corey Webster had four tackles. Cornelius Griffin News The Redskins have listed the following inactives for Week 15 against the Bengals: QB Colt Brennan (3rd QB), WR Malcolm Kelly, DB Chris Horton, LB Marcus Washington and DL Cornelius Griffin. Kevin Huntley News According to the official team site, the Steelers made three roster moves Sunday, including signing free agent tight end Lee Vickers, placing tight end Jonathan Dekker on the Waived/Injured List and waiving defensive end Kevin Huntley. Robert Agnone No Updates Santana Moss News According to agent Drew Rosenhaus on his Twitter page, Redskins WR Santana Moss could be in line for a big year. Said Rosenhaus: "Santana Moss is working hard with Jason Campbell to ensure they are a successful combo this year. Another year in (coach Jim) Zorn's system will help." Vaka Manupuna News Redskins DL Vaka Manupuna (quadricep), TE Tyler Ecker (groin) and RB Clinton Portis (knee) missed Thursday's preseason game against the Jaguars. Fred Smoot News Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs appears likely to miss at least one more game with a calf injury, while defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin might need a game off to deal with a nagging shoulder injury. Cornerback Fred Smoot is still nursing a sore groin and might have to miss some practice this week. Clinton Portis News The Washington Post reports Redskins RB Clinton Portis could be losing some carries to Ladell Betts this season. The report states: "There may very well be more room for Betts to make an impact this season. At the very least, Betts is expected to get more carries as the team looks to lessen the strain on Portis and keep the workhorse healthy. That was the plan last season before Betts's injuries kept him from factoring in heavily, so don't be surprised if he is much more involved in 2009." Derrick Dockery No Updates Marcus Mason News The Washington Post reports the Redskins might have use for RB Marcus Mason this season. The report says "Mason endeared himself to Redskins fans the past two preseasons, leading the league in rushing last preseason with 317 yards. He was one of the Redskins final cuts last year and was picked up by the Baltimore Ravens on their practice squad and then signed to the New York Jets active roster. Mason will have to make an impact on special teams to warrant a RB spot." Randy Thomas No Updates Jonathan Evans News The Buffalo News reports the Bills have finalized their roster and made the necessary cuts to trim down to 53 players Saturday. The cuts included CB Will James, RB Dwayne Wright and LB Donnie Spragan. Also released were: TEs Courtney Anderson and Tim Massaquoi; LBs Jon Banks, Marcus Buggs and Blake Costanzo; DLs Jason Jefferson, Derrick Jones, Corey Mace and Teraz McCray; WRs Felton Huggins and Scott Mayle; RBs Bruce Hall and Jonathan Evans; and CB Dustin Fox. Ladell Betts News The Washington Post reports Redskins RB Clinton Portis could be losing some carries to Ladell Betts this season. The report states: "There may very well be more room for Betts to make an impact this season. At the very least, Betts is expected to get more carries as the team looks to lessen the strain on Portis and keep the workhorse healthy. That was the plan last season before Betts's injuries kept him from factoring in heavily, so don't be surprised if he is much more involved in 2009." Dave Rayner News The Redskins signed kicker Dave Rayner on Wednesday, giving incumbent Shaun Suisham a possible competitor during training camp. Rayner has played for five teams in four seasons since being picked by Indianapolis in the sixth round of the 2005 draft out of Michigan State. His best season came with Green Bay in 2006, when he made 26-of-35 field goal attempts. Last season, he spent two games on Cincinnati's roster while regular kicker Shayne Graham was injured. Rayner made his only field goal attempt with the Bengals, a 26-yarder. Fred Davis News According to the team web site, Redskins TE Fred Davis is in his second year in coach Jim Zorn's offense, and he notices that he is "playing faster" than he did a year ago. He is more confident running pass routes now. "Last year I was new to the system," he said. "Now I'm more familiar with it and more comfortable. I can play with the speed I'm accustomed to playing at. I don't have to think as much - I can rely on my instincts and just go out there and play." Zorn said he has noticed a difference in Davis play. "He has progressed along and now he is looking forward to stepping into a role and actually playing," Zorn said. "Last year he was wondering what it was all about. He was excited to be on the team and he has kind of grown up to know to be on the football field you have to do things right and you have to play fast." Reed Doughty News Safety Reed Doughty has re-signed with the Redskins. The signing Wednesday means he will return for a fourth season with the team and is expected to back up Chris Horton. Doughty became an unrestricted free agent before the start of free agency. Last year, Doughty played in only four games because of a back injury. Roydell Williams News Receiver Roydell Williams has signed with the Redskins. Williams played three seasons for Tennessee, catching 84 passes for 1,139 yards. He had 55 catches passes for 719 yards in 2007, but ankle injuries led the Titans to cut him at the end of training camp last year. Williams was on hand for the start of voluntary spring practices Monday. Rocky McIntosh News In the Redskins' 24-10 loss at the Ravens in Week 14, notable defenders included: LB London Fletcher (12 total tackles despite foot injury), LB Rocky McIntosh (10 total tackles) and SS LaRon Landry (two total tackles, interception, forced fumble). Kareem Moore No Updates Dominique Dorsey No Updates Andre Carter News Redskins DL Andre Carter left Week 12 at Seattle with a foot injury. He finished with one solo tackle. LaRon Landry News Washington free safety LaRon Landry made a cameo appearance at practice Thursday - taking part in the last one before the Redskins broke for vacation. He has been absent and out of touch for much of the spring. He sported a new piercing just below his lip and what appeared to be a tiny red-heart tattoo just below his diamond stud earring. He flashed a cryptic smile when asked what he'd been doing to stay in shape. Coach Jim Zorn said he was surprised when Landry suddenly appeared in the office Wednesday. The two met for 15 to 20 minutes to clear the air, with Landry having to explain why he had not been returning the coach's calls. Landry and Zorn differed on why Landry had been absent. Zorn said it was because Landry simply preferred to work out on his own, while Landry said he was "at home dealing with a couple of personal issues." He did not elaborate. Whatever he's been doing, he's hasn't been slacking off. All agreed that Landry looked in great shape on the field. Jaison Williams No Updates Rock Cartwright News Washington RB Rock Cartwright got one carry in Week 16's 10-3 win over the Eagles. Cartwright went for one yard. Edwin Williams No Updates Byron Westbrook News The Redskins on Wednesday re-signed cornerback Byron Westbrook. Westbrook, the younger brother of Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, spent the last two seasons on the Redskins practice squad. He originally signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent from Salisbury State in May 2007. Scott Burley No Updates Anthony Montgomery News Redskins DL Anthony Montgomery is recovering from an Achilles' tendon injury that has forced him to miss the last two games, but he is expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Giants. Chase Daniel No Updates Justin Tryon No Updates Casey Rabach No Updates Antwaan Randle El News Washington WR Antwaan Randle El found the end zone in Week 17's loss to San Francisco. Randle El caught a Jason Campbell pass and took it six yards and stretched out to get into pay dirt. He finished with three catches for 16 yards. Alex Buzbee News The Redskins placed DE Alex Buzbee on Injured Reserve on Tuesday. Buzbee ruptured his Achilles' tendon during the Redskins' first practice of training camp. Durant Brooks No Updates Eddie Williams No Updates Albert Haynesworth News Moving swiftly in the first hours of free agency, the Redskins opened their deep pockets and snagged perhaps the biggest name available: All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. The longtime Titans defensive tackle agreed to a seven-year deal worth approximately $100 million early Friday morning. A stout, sack-producing interior lineman is just what the Redskins have needed. Haynesworth had a career-high 8 1/2 sacks last year, more than one-third of Washington's team total (24). The 27-year-old lineman is 6-foot-6, weighs 320 pounds and has 24 sacks in seven NFL seasons since the Titans drafted him in the first round out of the University of Tennessee in 2002. Haynesworth last year also had 75 tackles, 22 quarterback pressures, seven tackles for a loss and forced a team-high four fumbles. D'Anthony Batiste No Updates Colt Brennan News The following Redskins players are inactive for Week 17's game at San Francisco: DL Ryan Boschetti, QB Colt Brennan (3rd QB), DL Rob Jackson, WR Malcolm Kelly and LB Tyson Smith. Lorenzo Alexander News The Washington Redskins ended Lorenzo Alexander's season on Wednesday, placing the defensive tackle on injured reserve and signing linebacker Tyson Smith. Alexander injured his hamstring Sunday in the Redskins' victory over the Eagles. The second-year reserve and special teamer played in 15 games, posting 26 tackles, two sacks and two passes defended on the season. Smith, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound free agent, was in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys this season. The 27-year-old was on the Redskins practice squad in 2006 and has also had stints with the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants. H.B. Blades News Washington LB H.B. Blades played in Saturday's preseason game against the Panthers and recorded three total tackles. Derek Walker No Updates Rob Jackson No Updates Jason Campbell News Redskins coach Jim Zorn has been impressed with QB Jason Campbell's work this offseason. "He's progressing very well," Zorn said Monday. "I think he's much further ahead then he was last year. Last year he was trying to understand terminology, understand how things work and being in it all year and with all the personal improvements he's made, in this offseason, he's been strong, confident and doing a wonderful job throwing the football." Chris Wilson News Redskins DL Chris Wilson opened his 2008 season with a sack Week 1 against the Giants. It took him five games during his rookie season in 2007 to record his first sack. Alfred Fincher News Linebacker Alfred Fincher re-signed with the Washington Redskins on Tuesday. Fincher joined the Redskins during training camp last year and played in 15 games as a backup and on special teams. Fincher was drafted by New Orleans in 2005 and played three seasons with the Saints. J.D. Skolnitsky No Updates Todd Collins News Washington RB Mike Sellers saw game action in Week 16's win over the Eagles but was used only as a blocker and did not pick up any stats.
