2 NFL GMs down, 2 more to come, and at least 3 on firing line

As of now there are two general manager jobs open, Carolina and Jacksonville -- with the future of the coaches there linked to who takes over as GM -- and more change still to come. The Chargers and Browns will also part with their general managers Monday, league sources said, and the Cardinals could do so shortly as well.

Ownership is also mulling front office changes in Kansas City, Buffalo and Tennessee. Scott Pioli reportedly is safe in KC for now, but some coaches, like Andy Reid, would have interest in that job, sources said, but not unless changes were made in the front office as well.

The Jets also are parting ways with Mike Tannenbaum. For that opening, Houston director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan is one name some in the organization are high on. Former GM like Jerry Angelo and Randy Mueller have interest in the position, league sources said, but the Jets may opt to go in a younger direction.

The Panthers are considering the merits of promoted Brandon Beane, their interim general manager, league sources said. Consultant Ernie Accorsi, who is helping owner Jerry Richardson with the search, has also recommended Giants execs Dave Gettleman and Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross, sources said.

Jacksonville has received strong recommendations on 49ers personnel man Tom Gamble, league sources said, and Green Bay senior personnel executive Alonzo Highsmith, among others.

Jacksonville relieved Gene Smith of his duties this morning and Carolina parted with Marty Hurney during the season.
