Steelers TE Heath Miller could be ready to play sometime in Sept.

The Steelers expect tight end Heath Miller back for practice the week before their home opener Sept. 8 against the Titans, and he could return to the lineup sooner than some have reported, according to a league source

Miller, who had a career year in 2010, suffered a knee injury late in the season and has been on the PUP list. Some have reported he will miss at least the first month of the season, but he could be back sooner than that.

Pittsburgh is thin at tight end now -- a key position in Todd Haley's offense -- and though Miller will need time to get his game conditioning back after such a long absence, he could be back in September.

Miller injured his ACL in the final game last season.
