Bills keeping only 2 QBs, Manuel and Tuel, for Week 1 of NFL season

The Buffalo Bills are going with two QBs into Week 1, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

First-round pick EJ Manuel is recovering well from recent meniscus repair, and has not been ruled out for the opening game. His status will be evaluated through the week in practice, but the team did not place any waiver claims on a quarterback, the source said, and are not mulling bringing in other passers after releasing Matt Leinart. The Bills also released Thad Lewis, but re-signed him to the practice squad.

Undrafted free agent Jeff Tuel, who quickly earned the trust of coach Doug Marrone this offseason and showed well in the preseason, would start if Manuel cannot go. Veteran Kevin Kolb, who was competing with Manuel for the starting job, is still recovering from a concussion and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
