Rams don't deny chasing Favre, never discussed Tebow as replacement

Multiple members of the Rams organization declined to comment on the ESPN report on them contacting Brett Favre. No one flatly denied it -- which is telling -- but expressed that the team did not comment on its pursuit of replacements for Sam Bradford during the process and would not be doing so after the fact.

Earlier reports of them having internal discussions about Tim Tebow were false, numerous sources said, and the reality is that Favre isn't entertaining offers at this point in his retirement.

Favre, in a radio interview Thursday with Jon Saraceno of SportsTalk 570 in Washington D.C., said: “It's flattering, but there's no way in hell I'm going to do that.”

That the Rams would try Favre is surprising to many in the NFL, who figured this would be the time to look at a younger quarterback or try the developmental route, not a 44-year old.

As one member of the organization pointed out: "We did sign the guy who broke all of Favre's records at Southern Miss ... Austin Davis."

Perhaps having Favre to mentor him for a few weeks as they got the youngster, Davis, ready to play in the second half of the season would have made some sense, though one would think at this stage of his retirement Favre himself would need a prolonged period of time to actually be ready to play a regular-season NFL game.
