Ravens players unhappy with run-game coordinator Juan Castillo

With the Ravens run game faltering, run-game coordinator Juan Castillo has become a divisive figure in the locker room, according to multiple sources, with players meeting amongst themselves privately about their displeasure with him, and placing part of the blame for their woes on him.

Baltimore's offensive line has been suspect at best, star running back Ray Rice appears to be hampered by injuries and is not himself, and there are ample excuses to go around as to why the team has been literally unable to run the ball all season. Also, they have repeatedly struggled to churn out three-and-four-yard carries. But within the locker room, many believe Castillo, who has altered the scheme some and struggled to connect with players, is also at fault.

Castillo is a widely respected former offensive line coach who had a long and successful run with Andy Reid in Philadelphia, where he worked with Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. Last season, following his firing by the Eagles as defensive coordinator, he came on and consulted for the Ravens coaches prior to them winning the Super Bowl last season.

As run-game coordinator, however, players believe he has been too rigid and many have differed with the direction he has taken things. While offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell retains strong support in the locker room, despite the offense's issues, the running backs, offensive linemen and others have discussed their issues with him internally, and, whether scapegoat or not, Castillo's brief tenure with the club has become rocky.
