49ers help CB Tarell Brown make up for agent's $2 million mistake

Cornerback Tarell Brown has received a $300,000 bonus from the 49ers.

Brown missed out on a $2 million workout bonus last offseason, but was recently compensated by the team to help make up for his mistake.

Brown needed to participate in the team's offseason workout program to receive the bonus, but chose to work out on his own away from the team facility as he normally did. Brown was unaware of the bonus, he has said, as his agent at the time (since fired) failed to inform him of the situation.

Brown enlisted a new agent, Joel Segal, who tried to negotiate a new deal for quite some time with the sides unable to reach an extension. Segal was able to get Brown a $300,000 bonus, however, according to NFLPA record, that was issued on Dec. 27. Brown remains eligible for free agency this offseason.

It's a nice gesture by the 49ers -- if one they certainly didn't publicize, and good work for Segal to make the best of a bad situation. The 49ers value Brown, and it's certainly possible he could return. Makes for a nice Christmas bonus either way.
