Denver has informed Champ Bailey he will be released, in what is one of several expected moves for aging cornerbacks.

Bailey joins Cortland Finnegan, Dunta Robinson, Asante Samuel as veteran corners to be let go, while Antonio Cromartie and Dimitri Patterson are also likely to be let go as well.

Bailey suffered through injuries in 2013 but returned in time for Denver's Super Bowl appearance. He could contemplate a switch to safety if he opts to continue his very distinguished career elsewhere.

Bailey, a former first-round pick of Washington, was dealt to the Broncos in 2004 as part of a blockbuster deal for Clinton Portis, which ended up as a steal for Denver.

The perennial All-Pro was one of the elite shutdown corners of his generation, but with the Broncos in Lombardi-or-bust mode, and needing cap space to keep their star-studded roster together, Bailey was vulnerable to a release given his high cap number, and with no new deal able to be worked out, the Broncos will be moving on without him.
