What was Avril thinking by not taking the Lions' deal?

If what's reported is true, I can't believe Cliff Avril didn't take the deal Detroit offered. Detroit's supposed three-year deal for $30M with $20M guaranteed basically took care of two franchise tags in case the Lions tag Avril for the next two years. The other beauty of the deal was it's only three years and that meant Avril would be back on the market as a 29-year old pass rusher and able to hit another big contract.
