Robert Griffin III to be a fine NFL QB, but he needs time, patience

When I filed my camp tour report from Washington I said I wished Robert was sitting on the bench for 2012 -- or at least part of the season.

He needs to get more practice time in the NFL way of playing the game and would benefit from observation and practice.

Now that the other rookie QB -- Kirk Cousins -- is having an excellent preseason (18 of 23, 264 yards, three TDs) some Redskins fans are starting to conjure up memories of Heath Shuler and Gus Frerotte. Shuler was a first-round pick and Frerotte a seventh-round pick in the same draft. Shuler started 13 Redskins games, while Frerotte started 46.

I don't think the Shuler-Frerotte analogy applies in this case but the emails are already coming in from Redskin fans.

Patience, please!
