Week 17 top picks: Two dogs and a favorite

After going 0-3 in Week 15, it was bounce-back time for me in Week 16 as I went 2-1.

I won with the Bengals (minus-7) against the Vikings, the Jets (minus-2 1/2) against the Browns and I lost with the Cowboys (minus-2) against the Redskins. But at least it's better than going oh-for-three.

After a slow start, the best bets have had a good second half. I'd like to close the regular season out in style. So the picks this week are Falcons, Steelers and Cowboys.

Falcons (plus- 6 1/2) -- The Falcons showed well last Monday night against the 49ers and back home they will compete against a Panthers team coming off a huge win against the Saints. Carolina needs this game to win the division, but it won't be easy. Matt Ryan will keep the Falcons around.

Steelers (minus-7) -- The Steelers are still alive for a playoff berth, while the Browns will have their bags packed. They are also playing a second consecutive road game. That will show up. Where's the focus? Steelers big.

Cowboys (plus 6 1/2) -- Even without Tony Romo, this is way too big a number. Let's not forget the Eagles lost to the Vikings two weeks ago. They are far from being the dominant team everyone is making them out to be. Dallas will find a way to hang around and maybe even win it.

Pete Prisco has covered the NFL for three decades, including working as a beat reporter in Jacksonville for the Jaguars. He hosted his own radio show for seven years, and is the self-anointed star of CBS Sports' show, Eye on Football. When he's not watching game tape, you can find Pete on Twitter or dreaming of an Arizona State national title in football.
