Devils select Stephane Matteau's son

By Adam Gretz | Hockey writer

PITTSBURGH -- When the Rangers and Devils met in the Eastern Conference Final we kept hearing about the 1994 series between the two teams. The guarantee from Messier, the goal from Stephane Matteau. All of it. We were able to get another reminder of it on Friday night with the most unintentionally hilarious pick of the first round of the NHL draft.

With the No. 29 overall pick the Devils selected forward Stefane Matteau. This is incredible because Matteau is the son of the aforementioned Stephane Matteau, the man that scored one of the most crushing goals in New Jersey Devils history during double overtime of Game 7 of that '94 series.

You remember the goal (and the famous call), right?

And now his kid plays for the Devils.

It has to be a bittersweet night for Devils fans. He's a good enough prospect ... but man. The memories.
