NHL lockout: Nicklas Backstrom will join Alex Ovechkin in KHL

It appears that Washington Capitals teammates Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin will be reunited in the KHL for the remainder of the NHL lockout.

According to multiple reports out of Europe, Backstrom has agreed to join Dynamo Moscow, the team that Ovechkin has been playing for since the lockout began.

It's a move that his agent has confirmed to Katie Carerra of the Washington Post.

If you want to try to read something into Backstrom's move, the timing is certainly interesting, and perhaps even a little ominous given that the NHLPA is set to make a proposal to the league on Thursday afternoon, and that the league hopes to start the season by Nov. 2.

Backstrom missed half of the 2011-12 season because of a concussion he suffered when he was elbowed by then-Calgary Flames forward Rene Bourque. In 42 games, he scored 14 goals to go with 30 assists.

Ovechkin has scored four goals to go with seven assists in his first 11 games with Dynamo.
