VIDEO: Rechlicz, McLaren with first great hockey fight of year

By Brian Stubits | Hockey writer

If you go to a Worcester Sharks-Portland Pirates AHL game, a boxing match might just break out.

The Sharks and Pirates got together Tuesday night for the seventh time already this season and for the 29th time, there were fighting majors handed out. I'm willing to bet none were worth the five-minute penalty more than this round between Joel "The Wrecker" Rechlicz of Portland and Frazer McLaren of the Sharks.

Holy moley. As Worcester play-by-play man Eric Lindquist apty summarized: "Oh, good mercy!" Indeed, that's a bombs-away bout if I've seen one.

Good news for people in Massachusetts, the Pirates and Sharks will be playing again on Sunday in Worcester. They still have five meetings to go this season.

For the record, the Sharks are affiliates of the San Jose Sharks -- could you have guessed? -- while the Pirates are affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes, so it's a Pacific Division battle on the East Coast.

Rechlicz was with the Capitals for three games last season, acruing more time in penalties (10 minutes) than time on ice (5.56 minutes). McLaren spent seven games with the Sharks last season and only had nine minutes in penalties.
