Shortly after the NHL lockout came to an end the Toronto Maple Leafs fired Brian Burke as the team's general manager and moved him into an adviser role that seemed to be made up on the fly. The move came after the Maple Leafs failed to qualify for the playoffs every year during his watch, extending their league-worst playoff drought to seven seasons.

Currently he's a part-time scout with the Anaheim Ducks -- the team he won a Stanley Cup with as general manager back in 2007 -- and the Maple Leafs find themselves in playoff position halfway through the season.

Burke's thoughts on Toronto's newfound success?

Well that's just great.

It is after all the team that Burke put together over the years with players like Nazem Kadri, James van Riemsdyk, Phil Kessel and Ben Scrivens leading the way for Toronto.

Though, in fairness, Burke has been on the other side of that meal as well. Like, say, that Stanley Cup winner in Anaheim that was largely put together by Bryan Murray. So, yeah, sometimes it is a balanced universe.
