Red Wings coach Mike Babcock sounds off on officials on TV broadcast

By Brian Stubits |

Usually, the interviews with coaches during the game are as dull and uninformative as coaches get. They make it look like the chore that it is and usually have nothing but generics and clichés to say.

Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock didn't give one of those bland interviews on Wednesday during Game 1 against the Predators, a 3-2 loss.

When it was his turn to answer the mid-game questions, he took the chance to speak his mind on the officiating. This is removing the self-censor.

When this interview was taking place the Wings had already been called for six minor penalties.

Considering the NHL just fined John Tortorella $20,000 for what he had to say after a game (which included some foul language) as well as Oilers coach Tom Renney, you can safely assume that Babcock will get a phone call from the league. Especially after griping on a national broadcast, more people are presumably going to see/hear that than a postgame media scrum.
