Video: Senators' Matt Carkner gets tossed for jumping Brian Boyle

By Brian Stubits | CBSSports.com

Things got a little testy in Game 1 between the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators. This was the scene early in the game when Brian Boyle took some liberties with Sens star defenseman Erik Karlsson.

So you had a feeling it could get a little ugly in Game 2, especially for Boyle. That feeling became even stronger when Paul MacLean sent out three heavy-fisted players for the opening faceoff.

It got really ugly a few minutes into the game when Matt Carkner threw a slew of punches square to Boyle's unsuspecting chin.

When the mess was sorted out Carkner was given a fighting major -- with no opposing fighting major for New York -- a two-minute roughing minor and a game misconduct. It's going to be interesting to see what more he might get from the league.

I don't agree with the call," coach John Tortorella said in his mid-game interview with NBC Sports. "I don't think it's an altercation, I just think it was a jumping."

I wonder what else he'll have to say after the game.

Brandon Dubinsky came flying into the scrum for the Rangers, obviously upset with what he saw Carkner do, which was pretty much mug Boyle. He joined the scrum late and actually earned himself a roughing minor and a game misconduct as well. The misconduct was for being the third man into the fight.

That's a call that had the Rangers livid, including Dubinsky himself who continued his fight on a Gatorade cooler on his way off the ice.

I think Dubinsky won that fight, the cooler was tossed like a rag doll. As for the Carkner-Boyle confrontation, well, I won't even call that a fight.
