Bryce Salvador scores first goal since 2010

By Adam Gretz | Hockey writer
Adam Larsson wasn't the only surprising player to score a goal for the New Jersey Devils during their impressive 4-1 win on Tuesday night.

Defenseman Bryce Salvador also joined the action and ended his lengthy goal-scoring drought that went all the way back to the 2009-10 season.

With less than three minutes to play in regulation, and his team already up by a pair of goals, Salvador launched the puck up the ice from deep in the defensive zone and watched as it bounced its way into the back of the net. He doesn't get an opportunity to score many goals, so we're going to give him some attention when he scores for the first time in over two years.

The Devils were shorthanded at the time, so even if he missed the net there was no danger of an icing call, so there was no risk in going for the goal from that distance.

Salvador appeared in all 82 games for the Devils this season without scoring. That came after he missed the entire 2010-11 season due to a concussion that he suffered during the preseason.

Before this play the last time the veteran defenseman had scored a goal in the NHL was on March 10, 2010. That's a streak of 112 games without a goal, including the playoffs.
