Flyers, Jaromir Jagr hope to reach new contract before draft

By Adam Gretz | Hockey writer
FlyersThe Philadelphia Flyers were apparently pleased with the way Jaromir Jagr's return to the NHL went this past season, as they are currently working on signing him to a new contract according to Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.

"I've talked to Jaromir and I have talked to Paul [Holmgren] and we hope to get something done before the draft,” said Petr Svoboda, Jagr's agent, via CSNPhilly.

After a lengthy and constantly changing free agency courtship that involved the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings last summer, Jagr eventually signed a one-year deal with the Flyers that paid him $3.3 million. He ended up appearing in 73 games, scoring 19 goals to go with 35 assists, though his production did noticeably slow down as the season progressed.

In 11 playoff games he scored one goal.

Of course, as we saw with Jagr last summer these contract talks, as well as his plans, can change at any given moment. Just because he may want to re-sign with the Flyers right now doesn't mean that's where he's ultimately going to end up, especially if this lingers on past July 1 when other teams could jump into the mix and offer more money.

Jagr will turn 41 in February.
