According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Magnitogorsk has hired former Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs coach Paul Maurice, as well as goaltender coach Tom Barrasso.
Tom Barrasso will also join Paul Maurice on the Magnitogorsk bench next season. Pretty significant hires by the KHL.— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) June 8, 2012
Maurice coached the Hurricanes this past season and was fired after an 8-13-4 start. In parts of 15 seasons as an NHL coach his teams have won 460 of a possible 1,084 games.
Maurice's name had been mentioned as a possible candidate for several of the NHL jobs that became available over the past few months, and according to Dreger he spoke with the Capitals but was never actually considered for the job.
