There are currently a few big names on the trading block such as Roberto Luongo and Rick Nash. Could there be another emerging star added to the list like, say, Evander Kane?
What's going on with the Jets ? I hear from a player on Winnipeg that Kane doesn't want to negotiate a new deal ?— Renaud P Lavoie (@RenLavoieRDS) June 16, 2012
Kane has no arbitration rights, he'll get a QO from the Jets, scored 30 goals...can he be traded ?— Renaud P Lavoie (@RenLavoieRDS) June 16, 2012
That's coming from out of left field here. Kane had a big year for the Jets, emerging as one of the game's best young players who are part of the face of the future. He is certainly the face of the future for the Jets after reaching the 30-goal mark this season.
But you might also recall that Kane found himself in a little issue with the folks of his new city in Winnipeg. He was accused of dining and dashing by some local restauranters in Winnipeg and they let him know about it with signs at game. Who knows if that has any bearing on Kane reportedly not being interested in negotiating a new deal with the Jets.
If there is fire to this smoke -- and Lavoie of RDS is usually very solid with his information -- it would probably look like a fire drill with teams scrambling to get in line to try and acquire Kane's services.
That all said, I can't foresee the Jets letting Kane get away, at least right now. If they do, they'd surely get a very good return.
