The waiting game continues for teams pursuing free agent defenseman Ryan Suter.
(And there's nothing wrong with that.)
USA Today's Kevin Allen passed along the word from Suter's agent, Neil Sheehy, on Tuesday that his client is still not ready to make a decision on where he signs.
The teams believed to be in the running include the Detroit Red Wings (perhaps the odds on favorite), Minnesota Wild, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and his previous team, the Nashville Predators.
Folks waiting for an announcement have become so desperate for any sort of development that people in Detroit were actually tracking flights that belong to Red Wings owner Mike Illitch.
Yes, this has actually started to reach NCAA recruiting levels of insanity.
As was the case with Zach Parise (we're still waiting for news on him, too) on Monday, these guys shouldn't be making their decisions based on some arbitrary timetable set by media and fans. Or even the teams. They earned their right to free agency and have an opportunity to pick and choose what team they want to play for and what situation they want to be in.
If they want to take longer than 24-48 hours to make that decision, that's their right.
Still, until Suter and Parise make up their minds it's probably preventing at least some other moves from taking place around the league. Will a player like Matt Carle, the best defenseman available after Suter, sign before Suter does? If he doesn't his value probably goes up even more for a team that missed out on Suter, especially with the lack of other impact players still available on the market.
So for now, we keep waiting.
