Video: Dustin Brown takes Cup to Ithaca, raises money for wounded Marines

By Brian Stubits | CBSSports.com

Dustin Brown got his turn to have his time with the Stanley Cup, taking it back home to Ithaca, N.Y. It looked pretty similar to when other players bring the Cup to their hometowns; meet a public place, hundres of people lined up for the chance to see the Cup up close and take a picture.

How this one differed, though, was that it was benefitting the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. The L.A. Kings captain stopped short of charging money for pictures with the Cup but donations were required. In the end he raised more than $12,000 for the fund that helps support injured veterans and their families.

For Brown it's a bit closer to home as his wife's cousin, Christopher Bordoni, was critically injured and eventually succomed to injuries sustained in Afghanistan. So as Brown told Dave Lozo of NHL.com, he immediately thought of how he could help.

"The whole community rallied around the Bordoni family at that time," Brown said. "When we talked about doing a public event, the first thing me and my wife thought -- we always do a lot of charity stuff -- we had Semper Fi right at the top of the list. It was a good fit."

Talk about a rewarding day. Sharing the holy grail of hockey with the people in your hometown and raising a lot of money to help out our wounded heroes. It doesn't get much better than that.

Of course, Brown did have some more of the traditional family time with the Cup too. Those kids, man ... adorable.
