The Edmonton Oilers announced on Wednesday that they have signed forward Taylor Hall to a seven-year contract extension. The deal is worth a total of $42 million which comes out to a salary cap hit of $6 million per season.

Hall, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft, is entering the final year of his entry level deal and would have been eligible for restricted free agency following this season. The new deal will run through the 2019-20 season.

"It's been something I've been thinking about for a while, so it's really exciting to get this new contract done," said Hall. "Obviously I want to be here, so I'm thrilled. I'm comfortable to be here for that long."

During his first two years with the club Hall has scored 49 goals to go with 46 assists in 126 games. He was the first of Edmonton's three straight No. 1 overall picks, and has been joined over the past two years by forwards Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov.

Now that Hall's next contract has been taken care of the next focus for the Oilers front office will be on forward Jordan Eberle who is coming off a 34-goal, 76-point season. He, too, is entering the final year of his entry level contract.
