We already showed you what happened to Evgeni Malkin in his first KHL appearance on Thursday, and later in the day Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin made his debut in the league with Dynamo Moscow in a 7-2 win.
Ovechkin recorded an assist in the rout, but the highlight of the day from him had to be this big, open-ice hit on Libor Pivko.
That's just a good, clean hit.
And even better than that, it resulted in a turnover in the neutral zone and led to a scoring chance going the other direction. Not a bad defensive play for a guy whose defensive game is constantly criticized.
With the NHL lockout in full swing, KHL games like this (as well as other European leagues and the various North American junior and minor leagues) might be the only hockey we get to see for a while.
