Video: Blue Jackets bring 'Gangnam Style' fad to NHL

By Brian Stubits |

It was only a matter of time before the Gangnam Style craze came to the NHL. The hope here was the lockout would prohibit its arrival to hockey. Alas, the Columbus Blue Jackets did their own version of it, anyway.

Assuming you haven't been sleeping under a rock for the past month or two, Gangnam Style is a song by Korean artist PSY that is accompanied by an interesting video. It has become a sensation and the latest "parody" fad. I say "parody" because the Gangnam videos aren't remakes of the song like the endless Call Me Maybe and Somebody that I Used to Know parodies were. Most of the Gangnam videos are like the Jackets', just remaking the video.

Things must be slow in team offices at this time (I wonder why??), so the Blue Jackets decided to dust off Stinger for the video and then a bunch of what I assume are team employees.

As I watched the video, I found myself thinking, "This is just missing the big shirtless dancer from the games" until he made a brief cameo near the end. Somehow it didn't make the video for me like I was hoping for. That's probably because it was another Gangnam Style video. Not much was going to save it for me, save it not being made.

This is the first and presumably (hopefully) the last time that we post about Gangnam Style videos here. We know the Panthers won't be shooting one in the near future. (Too soon?)
