Let's face it, 20-year-old guys aren't exactly known for being the cleanest people on the planet. Usually at that age we're in college and living off of pizza, beer, and turning our clothes inside out to avoid washing them after we've run out of clean ones (or maybe that was just me. It was probably just me).
This might be especially true when the guy in question is living on his own in Switzerland for a few months playing hockey. Kind of like Boston Bruins forward Tyler Seguin was during the NHL lockout (the video posted above is every goal he scored during his time with Biel in the Swiss-A league).
That brings us to a report from Blick (translation via The Local), a Swiss tabloid that caught up with the cleaning company that was responsible for handling Seguin's apartment after he departed for Boston to join his teammates for the start of the NHL season.
Some of it is pretty incredble, including the claim that he tried to wash his clothes in the dryer. The story said the floor was also covered with Coca-Cola bottles, garbage, and dirty linen (to accompany the story Blick photoshopped a picture of Seguin sitting in garbage).
In other words: Tyler Seguin was living in my old college dorm room.
Blick said the hockey player was “not versed in appliances” and as a result tried to wash his clothes in the dryer.
“He also did not know how to operate the dishwasher . . . when he ran out of clean plates, glasses and cutlery, he bought plastic tableware.”
Marc Lüpold, the managing director of the cleaning company, was diplomatic about the revelations.
“You could tell it was the first time a young, single man had an apartment,” Lüpold told Blick
And that last line is pretty much it. He's 20 years old, and he apparently lived like it.
Still, trying to wash clothes in the dryer? Let's be honest, that's pretty amazing. Perhaps in that instance a roommate would have helped a little, maybe like the one Patrick Kane had during his time in Switzerland.
