That was nice and all, but as Extreme once said, "More than words is all I ever needed you to show, then you wouldn't have to say that you love me." In other words, speak with your actions, not your words. (On a related note, I think you could live your life solely off 80s-early 90s music lyrics; imagine how great that would be. On another note, how funny is it that a band named Extreme has a song like More Than Words as its legacy?)
We already saw that the Tampa Bay Lightning were selling 200 season tickets for the robust price of $200 to try to win back fans. Well, the Penguins are fortunate enough that they don't need to do that; tickets are in high demand in Pittsburgh even after the lockout. Strictly speaking, the Pens don't have to really do much to get the fans back, but they will anyway.
For the first four games of the season, the Penguins will be handing out vouchers for three free -- yes that's right, FREE -- concession items. From the team's release:
Fans may choose from among hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, salads and fountain drinks.
All right, so beer isn't included but the rest doesn't sound so bad. I used to live on concession stand nachos when I went to hockey games growing up, so it's entirely possible I'd use all three vouchers on nachos, preferably loaded.
The Penguins are doing just a little more than offering up free food. They're also going to be selling merchandise in the team store at half off for those four games. Look on the discount rack and maybe you can find a Jordan Staal jersey for just pennies.
It's not much but it beats nothing. Again, the Penguins are one of those teams with a strong fan base and don't really need to do anything for the fans if they don't want to.
