With an 8-16-2 record this year, the University of Michigan hockey team's season has been a bit of a train wreck.
The Wolverines' latest recruit however might know a thing or two about train wrecks. Michigan has secured a verbal commitment from Kevin Lohan, a 6-foot-5 defenseman and first cousin of increasingly infamous actress Lindsay Lohan.
The hockey-playing Lohan is a product of the famed Shattuck-St. Mary's program that has graduated the likes of Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews and Zach Parise. He plays junior hockey for the Merritt Centennials of the British Columbia Hockey League.
In a statement announcing Lohan's commitment to Michigan, Merritt head coach Luke Pierce said, “He has been a tremendous addition to our hockey club as his character has fit in seamlessly with our environment here. He has become a big-minute player for us and has provided a very calming presence amongst our defense core.”
Character. Calming presence. Are we sure there's a relation?
Kevin Lohan told The Michigan Daily's Matt Slovin that his father and TMZ favorite Michael Lohan, Lindsay's dad, are brothers.
Either way, with how things have been going for the Wolverines, maybe they could use a good distraction.
