You know Joe Buck from such major sporting events as the Super Bowl and the World Series. Monday night, the longtime national play-by-play man and St. Louis Blues season ticketholder tried his hand at calling hockey.

With all due respect to Buck, it did not go well.

Buck took over for a few minutes for Fox Sports Midwest play-by-play man John Kelly -- who, like Buck, is the son of a legendary St. Louis-based broadcaster (the late Dan Kelly).

The often deliberate and measured Buck showed that preparation really is everything in broadcasting. Unfortunately for Buck, the Kings ended up scoring a goal as he was trying to collect his thoughts. Here's how the goal call went:

“All right, so, uh here's Carter bringing it out with Kopitar in the middle over to the left wing and … uh … here is a … GOAL scored by 44 ... Drewwwwiske.”

Kelly and color analyst Darren Pang sounded like they were having quite a time with Buck, despite the Blues going down 3-0.

“Here's the deal, you are really good at what you do,” Buck told the Blues broadcasters. “I would be broke and walking the streets if I had to do this for a living.”

Buck was very complimentary to his temporary booth mates and was a really good sport about the whole thing, but let's just say it's a good thing he chose baseball and football.
