How do you salute one of the greatest hockey players ever who was known for his salute? By looking like him, of course. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, remember.
Or at least you can try to look like him with a wig and a jersey from each of his teams through his career.
On a Wednesday night in Calgary when the Stars fell 7-4 to the Flames, that's just what six fans did, doing their best Jagr impersonations by sitting all in a line. They showed up nice and early and Jagr caught a glimpse of them during the warmups and had a good laugh.
I was going to applaud them for getting era-specific jerseys for all of his stops after seeing the old-school Pens sweater, but then I saw the Caps jersey. Too bad they couldn't find one of those regrettable Jagr-era sweaters to put on to really go for authenticity. Then again, I don't know if you can even find those things anymore; I think Washington wants to pretend they never existed.
At least they did get a little era-specific with the wigs. Notice how current Dallas-era Jagr does not have a mullet but, oh boy, does Pittsburgh-era Jagr. Even though those things are wigs, they are pretty disgusting. I love it.
Also, kudos for going with the jersey from the Czech Republic in there. Just because it wasn't in the NHL doesn't mean it didn't happen.
They aren't quite the kid immitating Miikka Kiprusoff, but they're pretty close. For my regrettable reference of this post, I guess you could say they LoooOOOoooOOOoook like Jagr (my promise to you now is that will be the last Maroon 5 reference I make in a post).
